Changes in Instructional Design Staff in eLearning Services

Amy Rovner eLearning Faculty-In-ResidenceThe college is announcing two changes in staffing in eLearning Services:

1. It is with much sadness that we announce that Kathleen Chambers, Instructional Designer, will be leaving the college at the end of this month for a position at a sister college.

Please help us wish her the best at a going away party on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in 1208M.

2. It is with much excitement that we announce Amy Rovner as our new Instructional Designer.  Currently, Amy serves as eLearning Faculty-In-Residence and will continue in that role through the end of winter quarter.  Amy will start as Instructional Designer on March 26th.  Amy can be reached at arovner@shoreline.edu, 206-546-6966, and in office 1212.   Amy graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Hotel Administration with a concentration in Food & Beverage Management. After working in the hospitality industry for several years, she decided to pursue additional education in Nutrition. She received her Masters in Public Health and Nutrition from the University of Washington. She also completed an internship to become a Registered Dietitian. She currently is enrolled in a one-year certificate program in Online Teaching. Amy says, “I love teaching online and helping students understand Nutrition but I’m also very interested in how to be a better online educator.  In my spare time I like to play with my boys, hike, read, and bake.”

Missy Anderson joins veterans affairs office

Missy Anderson comes to us from Seattle University’s Institute of Public Service where she served as the Administrative Assistant for three graduate and two undergraduate programs.  Prior to moving to Seattle in 2010, Missy worked for Sacramento City College for nearly a decade, first as the Veterans Certifying Official and then as the Student Personnel Assistant in Athletics.

Eager to work with veterans again, Missy accepted the position of Program Coordinator – Veterans Affairs at Shoreline Community College in January, 2014. Her goals are to provide a safe, welcoming environment for veterans and their families, and expand the existing support services that ensure student success in and out of the classroom.

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Missy enjoys spending time with family and friends, trips to the ocean, playing golf, working in her yard, and volunteering with the Seattle Women’s Chorus.

Miriam Grayson

Miriam Grayson is the new Program Coordinator in eLearning Services.  You can reach her in the front office area of the 1200 building or via elearning@shoreline.edu or 206-546-6966.  Here’s her bio:

“Born and raised in London, UK, I relocated to Seattle in January 2013 to join my husband who is from Washington.

In London, I worked as a medical secretary/personal assistant to six psychiatrists in a mental health unit for four years and, before working here at Shoreline Community College, I worked at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in the intake team, assisting new patients.

I grew up in a very multicultural family and have also travelled extensively and really enjoy learning about different cultures/visiting new countries. My passions are singing, playing the guitar, travelling, baking and swimming.

I really enjoy helping people and problem solving and am very excited to be able to put these qualities into action while working at Shoreline Community College. I am looking forward to learning new skills and meeting new people.”

UK Delegation Visiting This Week to Learn about Virtual College

A consortium of 12 colleges and related organizations from the UK will be visiting SCC this week to learn about our Virtual College Initiative.  While the use of eLearning is growing in education and industry globally, there is a large skills gap in the UK for the design and development of high quality online classes and training despite a big demand from education and industry.  The folks from the UK will be here to learn best practices around eLearning and discuss possible collaborations.  If you would like to be involved in the visit, please contact Ann Garnsey-Harter at agarnsey@shoreline.edu .
