Make sure to be there for a free pre-event screening of Bab el Hadid (also called, Cairo Station or The Iron Gate) for the 2013 Arab Center of Washington’s Cultural Festival. The film is one of many to be shown during the festival which takes place Oct. 12-13 at the Seattle Center. The film starts at 7 p.m. in Shoreline’s theater in the 1500 building on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Set in Cairo’s main railroad station, the film follows Kinawi (played by the film’s director Youssef Cahine) a crippled newspaper dealer who falls in love with the beautiful, but uninterested Hanuma. Swept away by his obsessive desire, Kinawi kidnaps her with terrible consequences.
The film was nominated for a Golden Bear in 1958 at the Berlin Film Festival. The film will have English subtitles.
