Tibet Beyond Black and White

The Multicultural Symposium Series continues with Dr. Michelle Kleisath (Equity and Social Justice faculty at Shoreline) and has a focus on race and white privilege. The discussion will focus on Tibet and China and white privilege in Asia today. Will take place in room 1402 and starts at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Here, we will expand conversations about Tibet beyond the figurative “black and white” framework of Tibetan versus Han Chinese, and complicate the issue of White privilege beyond the “Black and White” binary that often constricts discussions of race in the United States. Participants will learn how Whiteness matters differently in Tibet, greater China, and the United States and gain familiarity with the sociohistorical racial projects that shape White privilege in Asia today.
