The lineup of films includes:
- 10/6: “The New Black”
The New Black is a documentary that tells the story of how the African-American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights - 10/13: “God Loves Uganda: Have you Heard the Good News?”
God Loves Uganda is a powerful exploration of the evangelical campaign to change African culture with values imported from America’s Christian Right - 10/20: “Tales of the Waria: Indonesian Transgender Love Stories”
Tales of the Waria: Indonesian Transgender Love Stories tells stories of love and longing from transgender women in Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country. - 10/27: “In God’s House: Asian American Lesbian & Gay Families in the Church”
In God’s House: Asian American Lesbian & Gay Families in the Church shows how Asian American lesbians and gays have been largely invisible in Christian churches. This honest and thought-provoking film tells a story that the church needs to hear: that of Asian American Christian lesbian and gay people, their pastors, and their parents. - 11/3: “We Were Here: The AIDS years in San Francisco”
We Were Here: The AIDS years in San Francisco showcases the story of when AIDS arrived in San Francisco in 1981, and how it decimated a community, but also brought people together in inspiring and moving ways to support and care for one another and to fight for dignity and a cure. - 11/10: “Mosquita Y Mari”
Mosquita Y Mari: In a fast-paced immigrant community where dreams are often lost to economic survival, two young Chicanas contemplate life when they stir unexpected desires in each other. - 11/17: “Pariah”
Dee Rees’ powerful tale of coming-of-age captures the poignant sense of feeling like a PARIAH. We look at the fine artistic tradition of turning being an outsider into a position of power. - 11/24: “R/Evolve” with a campus visit from producer, director and star! (Film at 1:30 p.m., Q&A at 3)
R/Evolve asks “What is the face of equality and what is the price?”
