Special Guest Soloist at Shoreline Concert Band’s Spring Concert: “Proud to be American,” Tues., May 19

Saxophonist Gunnery Sergeant David Jenkins, center.

Saxophonist Gunnery Sergeant David Jenkins (center) of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform with the Shoreline Concert Band Tues., May 19.

The Shoreline Concert Band’s Spring Concert, “Proud to be American,” is this Tues., May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Shorewood High School’s Performing Arts Center. The performance is free, but donations for the Music Scholarship Fund are accepted at the door.

The concert will feature guest soloist Saxophonist Gunnery Sergeant David Jenkins, member since 2004 of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. Gunnery Sgt. Jenkins performs with the Marine Band at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour. His appearance at the Shoreline Concert Band’s concert is made possible by a grant from the Shoreline-LFP Arts Council.

The performance will also feature special guest groups including the University of Washington Campus Band, directed by graduate student Alison Farley, and the Kellogg Middle School Wind Ensemble directed by Alex Wilmart.

This concert will feature selections dear to the hearts of Americans – everything from a rousing playing of “Stars and Stripes Forever” to the “American Elegy,” reflective of the Columbine massacre. This is the final performance for the group of the academic year.
