Expect Delays and Plan Ahead for First Day of School Due to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Seattle Visit

We all know the first few days of classes always create a bit of traffic congestion in the areas surrounding campus and in the campus parking lots as students work to figure out their new schedules and routines. This year, traffic will be even more of a tangle thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping making a visit to the Seattle area Tues., Sept. 22 through Thurs., Sept. 24.

WSDOT has warned that traffic throughout the entire Puget Sound region will be heavy and unpredictable, as the president travels with a police-escorted motorcade that could result in traffic stops and slowdowns that could affect multiple highways and regions. Traffic is expected to be at its worst on Wed., Sept. 23 – the first day of Fall quarter classes!

So plan ahead and give yourself even extra time to get to and around campus this first week of the quarter. For more information on the expected congestion, click here.
