A message from President Roberts regarding the passing of Jake Long, Lancer Food Services employee

Dear Colleague,

We are deeply saddened to learn that Jake Long, a member of our Shoreline family, was one of the three victims of the fatal Mukilteo shooting this past weekend. Jake worked as an employee of Lancer Hospitality on campus and was known by many as a bright and friendly staff member who specialized in making delicious wraps and sandwiches with care for our community each day.

Students, staff, and faculty are invited to join a brief community gathering tomorrow (Aug 2) at 12:30 p.m. in the PUB lobby in remembrance of Jake.

Counseling is available this week to speak with any students who may need grief support. The Counseling Center is located in the FOSS Building in Room 5229. A 24-hour Crisis Line is available to students after hours at 866-427-4747. Counseling services are also available to Shoreline employees via the Employee Assistance Program at 877-313-4455.

President Roberts said, “As a treasured member of our Shoreline community, Jake’s passing is a terrible tragedy. The administration and counselors will do all we can to support students and employees who may be grieving this tremendous loss. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all who are affected by this senseless shooting.”

Should anyone receive any inquiries from the media, please refer calls immediately to Mary Brueggeman, Vice President for Advancement at 206-533-6724.

In support as we are going through tender times,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

Communications & Marketing welcomes Executive Director Martha Lynn and Director Lori Maxfield to our team

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that the search to fill the position of Director of Communications & Marketing has come to a successful conclusion and that we are fortunate to welcome not only one but two superbly-qualified, director-level professionals to the department: Martha Lynn as Executive Director and Lori Maxfield as Director.

The creation of the position of Executive Director reflects the importance of the multiple roles the department of Communications & Marketing plays both on campus and within the community, as well as its key strategic focus on increasing domestic enrollment.

As Executive Director, Martha brings ten years of director-level communications and marketing experience at Bastyr University. Maximizing on the strengths of her experience and skillset, Martha’s focus will be to continue to position our college as the area’s premier two-year institution, building community partnerships and relationships, and strengthening the communications efforts of the college as a whole.

Lori brings unique recruitment expertise to her position as Director, and will focus her talents on leading marketing efforts strategically targeting domestic enrollment and retention. This position meets the objectives of an approved aSAP to increase our enrollment through focused recruitment strategies.

As we work as a college to understand the implications of the new allocation model as it relates to Shoreline, I am thrilled with the vision that our Executive Team has shown in tackling marketing our great college with these seasoned communications and marketing professionals. Dividing areas of focus between an Executive Director and Director will allow the college to utilize and maximize the strengths of each and uniquely position our college to rise to the challenges ahead and step into the future with confidence.

Martha Lynn is beginning in her capacity as Executive Director today Monday, August 1 and Lori Maxfield will assume her new position as Director on Monday, August 15. Please join me in welcoming both to campus.

Thank you to all who participated in the open forums and provided input. Your feedback was most helpful!
