Events and News
Good morning all,
I hope you had a great week. Mine seems to have flown by. They say summers are slower for Higher Education but I’m still waiting for that to happen! Several projects are happening, including planning, and many other items that are keeping me super busy.
As far as community connections this week, Greg Cranson and I met with Shoreline Police Department to discuss a couple events we have planned for this year (more information to come). Last time we discussed one of the events there was talk of a “dunk tank” activity where I was going to be potentially awaiting your softball throws. I’m glad this activity didn’t come up! Several of us also met with our Title III Grant Investigator to discuss our Title III grants at the college. It was a great meeting allowing us to summarize the excellent work happening so far, as well as ideas for next steps to support our students and staff. We also had Darnesha and Erwin Weary from Black Coffee NW on campus last week discussing some of their educational programming. They were able to connect with some of the CECO team and a few others as they consider next steps for their programs (in addition to coffee- coming this Fall!).
I also had the pleasure to meet with President Villa from Skagit Valley College last week. We had an opportunity to discuss some of the similar struggles we are seeing across the colleges, and to share all the cool things happening on both our campuses. He is a wonderful person, and I think it will be great to work with him on shared projects in the region.
This weekend was pretty lowkey on my end, though I did take Aggie over to Lake Stevens area for a nice hike. Other than that, we’ve just been catching up on home projects and errands. I am preparing for a long weekend in Vancouver next weekend which should be fun- I haven’t been in ages and it’s an easy drive from here! Have a great week all!
Best,
Jack
Accreditation and Budget
- Area Reviews inform how the College will allocate resources for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
- The next step in that process is for Executive Team members to prioritize budget requests, as articulated in the Area Reviews, for their areas taking into account the priorities articulated by the prior-level budget manager.
- The next Accreditation site visit will be Thursday-Friday, April 18-19, 2024. This visit is called a “Mid-Cycle” visit as it takes place in the middle of the 7-year accreditation cycle.

- Summer enrollment is up slightly overall! International student enrollment is up 12%!
