Events and News
Hey folks! Hope you all are doing well. I just got back this week from vacation. I was talking to my wife about it, and we realized that it has been about four years since we last went on a one-week vacation together! Like many of you I am sure with COVID and this year’s challenges it has been hard to be away. Our pup Agnes joined us and is now internationally famous. I did do some email while I was gone (of course) but Lori said I was “pretty good” about not checking too much, so that’s something. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon and sharing our summer adventures.
As a function of being away and the campus being closed for Labor Day, I don’t have that much to report. Perhaps the most exciting update this week has to do with a meeting Wendy Coates, and I had with leadership at Goodwill. I attended their 100-year anniversary celebration a few months ago and met some great folks who have a strong DEI lens and dedication to many of the same issues we do. Wendy and I spoke with them about possible partnering around areas where we overlap and exploring how we might be able to connect some of their new programs with our offerings at the College to create a more seamless transition between their career training programs and our educational opportunities. The first meeting went really well, and we will be following up with them next week to discuss next steps. I will keep you posted!
Happy to be back and to engage with the Shoreline team. Have a great weekend!
Best,
Jack

Foundation and Advancement
A couple of items from the Foundation this week:
- Thank you to our scholarship readers! We are grateful for your service and time. Thank you for volunteering your time to help donors fund students!
- Welcome back Michelle! After a couple of months’ absence, Michelle is back and as full of energy as ever! Michelle has resumed her duties as Foundation Manager and will be back on campus next week.
- There will be a rededication of a gingko tree for Erin Walker on 9/22 at 4:00 pm in the Courtyard near the Library. Erin was part of our campus community and died several years ago. The tree planted in her honor failed to thrive where it was, so a new tree (in a new spot) will be rededicated.
