Events and News
Hi everyone, hope all is well!
First, I want to thank everyone involved with the planning, coordination, and attendance of Opening Day/Week! It was fantastic to see so many of you here in person, and we had a wonderful online contingent as well. The day was informative, fun, engaging, and a great way to start the Fall Quarter. And… enrollment is even up! I’m excited to be working with you all this year, particularly focusing on how we can work together to think more systemically in how we connect and serve our community.

This past week Aisha Hauser and I visited the Muckleshoot Tribal College and met with two new colleagues. It was truly a wonderful meeting. We spent much of it learning about tribal history and more specifically about the Muckleshoot. We discussed possible partnerships as we move forward including seeking their input on our Capital Projects and potentially connecting with other educational opportunities here at Shoreline. Representatives will come to visit us in October as a next step. We will be reaching out to the Faculty Senate and others to be a part of this next step and will keep you posted on progress.
Finally we had an ET retreat this week, reviewing many of the items we discussed during Opening Day. It was a full day and very productive. I did my typical thing that I used to do as a professor (too much content, not enough time 😊) but it was still great for us to connect and prepare for this week.
I’m looking forward this weekend to visiting the Washington State Fair! A friend of ours has a kid who entered a hybrid melon they grew in their garden (I kid you not) and won an award. So, we will be celebrating that. Also, I am wondering whether they will have deep friend twinkies. If you have any suggestions for me to check out let me know. Looking forward to visiting Puyallup also as I haven’t been there yet.
Have a great week.
Best,
Jack
Amendment to Last Week’s Message:
Last week we mentioned the partnership between the Latino Educational Training Institute and Shoreline Community College. We will be seeing 50+ new ESL seekers as a result of that partnership but it will be in the winter quarter, not the fall.

Foundation and Advancement
The Giving Table: SCCF Annual Fundraising Luncheon
The SCCF annual fundraising luncheon happens on November 3! This years’ event will focus on how donors impact the students and programs at SCC. Unlike in past years, there will be no cost to attend the event. Guests will be asked to consider making a gift of $200 (or an amount that is meaningful for them) during the event. If you would like to help or want to know more about filling up a table of people, let Wendy know!
Giving Table – Sponsors:
Sponsorship is a critical component of any fundraising event. Sponsors, individuals and businesses, provide funds for promotional consideration on our website, social media, printed collateral, etc. Event sponsors help to defray the cost of the event so that every dollar raised will support SCC students and programs! Want to be a sponsor, or know someone who could be a sponsor, click here for more info.
Shout out to the sponsors who have already committed to helping! Click here to see who they are! And if you know or shop with them, give them a big “thank you”!
Scholarship Update – The SCCF provides student scholarships each year based on a wide variety of criteria set by donors, including financial need, academic merit, community service, and area of study.
In the past 4 months:
- A total of 23 summer quarter scholarships were awarded for a total of $22,272.50.
- A total of 37 fall quarter scholarships were awarded for a total of $29,429.30.
Winter quarter scholarship application window opens November 1.
Want to be a scholarship reader? It’s a fantastic way to get involved and be a part of helping students. The time commitment is easy and flexible. Let Michelle know by clicking here.
