Hello all- I hope you are doing well!
VP-Instruction Recruitment Update
As shared in my 10/26/23 Campus Update, the College did not identify a hire from the Fall 2023 Vice President for Instruction (VP-I) candidate pool. An updated recruitment announcement which highlights the DEIA lens for position work will be posted for application beginning next week, with an updated timeline established to bring finalist on campus towards the middle of January 2024 for a potential hire by April 1st. A big thank you to the VP-I screening committee for their continued work in support of a hire for VP-I position.
Related to the VP-I recruitment update above, both Lucas Rucks and Shanon Ehmke-Reedy have been extended through April 30, 2024, in their Acting VP-I and Acting Executive Dean of Business, Communications & Social Sciences, respectively. Their continued support in these leadership roles is much appreciated.
As usual it was a busy week at Shoreline, and here are a few of my highlights.
I attended a really inspiring talk yesterday by Professor Peter Bacho. He read from his award-winning book “Cebu” as well as his recently released “Uncle Rico’s Encore.” Professor Bacho discussed the history and legacy of “Pinoy Seattle” as well as the resistance and strength of the local AAPI community in a way that was entertaining, moving, and powerful. His sense of humor and poignant points about racism and resiliency were inspirational and I think we all learned a great deal. Thank you so much to Professor Nicole Buyagawan and the Ethnic Studies program for this important event.
Yesterday we had another wonderful gallery opening event focused on one of our amazing new faculty members. The showing is called “Go Home” by Parisa Ghaderi. The work is beautiful and thought provoking, creating a great space for conversation and community. Come check it out for yourself – in the 1000 building (and say hi if you come by)!
This past week we really enjoyed seeing our partners Director of EDI Sophia Kristina Aratrap and Director of Tribal/Government Affairs Glenda Breiler from the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. They came to connect and tour the new Cedar (6000) building! They are both wonderful leaders, and we are chatting about ways we can work together to help support their vision for the State in bringing us all together to create collective action and change. More to come.
Thank you to everyone that came and donated to Shoreline Community College Foundation Giving Table event last week. It was so wonderful spending time with everyone. My guess is Wendy will give you the details below, but she and the team did a FANTASTIC job! They met the fund-raising goal and packed the house with wonderful guests who care about our college and want to see us be successful! Check out this great video that Rob, Cat, and Tony did—so well done!
And finally—Pizza. Thank you to everyone who sent in pizza suggestions. I consider this data gathering, so yes, I will try various places and report back to you in person.
Cheers,
Jack

To ensure proper recording of these transactions, please contact accountsreceivable@shoreline.edu with the amount and the department budget coding when expecting these customer payments.
Budget Office
FY 2024 budget process has moved from development to implementation. A huge thank you to our budget consultant, Becca Chen, for getting the FY 2024 budget developed after some major hurdles this year. SCC Budget analysts are busy uploading budgets into ctcLink. Please be patient as response times may be somewhat delayed.
Purchasing
SCC Purchasing now has additional support. Tracy Bjerkset, TSS purchasing specialist, will now be able to dispatch purchase orders. The goal is to provide end-to-end purchasing in TSS resulting in purchasing efficiencies campus-wide. Thank you, Tracy!
Student Finance/Cashier’s Office
Staff are reviewing student accounts with an outstanding balance for the 2023-2024 academic year. Students owing $500 or more will have a hold placed on their account. The hold threshold was raised from $100 to $500 at the start of Fall 2023 term. Holds placed for non-payment will prevent the student from enrolling in Winter 2024 term. Students may contact the Cashier’s Office in person during college business hours located in Foss 5227, telephone 206-546-7850 or email accountsreceivable@shoreline.edu.
Nelnet payment plans are available for Winter 2024. Students may enroll in a Nelnet payment plan through ctcLink. Winter quarter Enrollment begins on November 8th.

Belated THANK YOU to TSS
Financial Services wishes to send our appreciation for the hard work and effort by TSS and Ric Doike-Foreman for prioritizing restoration of the network connection lost in the ransomware event. They were able to get SCC accounts payable’s check printer back up and running after several long weeks last summer. This made daily printing of check payments to vendors, employees, and students possible again. Thank you!
Communications and Marketing:
I would like to officially welcome Steve Marshall to the Communications and Marketing team. Steve has been doing great work with the Outreach and Recruitment team, but after a review of many of our communication practices and platforms this summer, it was determined that he could be a great asset to the C&M team, and can really help us shore up a lot of student communication across campus in myriad ways, both with our prospective and existing students. Stay tuned for more updates!

Extra thanks and gratitude to Cat and C&M folks and Josh and Michelle in the Foundation office, and Tony Doupe for his heartfelt and compelling ask!
