Waves of Gratitude Joshua Salois

A Wave of Gratitude to Joshua Salois for Respect and Teamwork.

Josh cares about students above all else, is incredible at his job, and goes above and beyond. Even as a very busy leader in his department, Josh offers assistance to his colleagues and is willing to help out when they need an extra hand. Thank you for your great work and for always being there, Josh! Submitted by Anonymous.

As a reminder, for those wishing to acknowledge the work of fellow shoreline staff members or a group at Shoreline, you need only submit a Waves of Gratitude form for individuals or a Shoreline Shoutout for groups.  Thank you from the Employee Recognition Committee

Waves of Gratitude- Douglas Haub

Wave of Gratitude to Douglas Haub, Administration, PIE

Douglas has been tremendously helpful with some complex puzzles. He is solution-oriented and a creative problem-solver. There has been more than one occasion when I’ve approached him with a need (“Is there a way to figure out xyz…?” or “What would be an efficient way to accomplish abc?” or “I need this system to collect/provide this information to this other system so that I can do 123”) and he takes it on. He will put in long hours and will test out more than one solution. I am impressed, too, with the laborious investment he has made in continually growing his advanced ctcLink/analyst skills.

Douglas is not a technical “fix-it” guy – he is so much more: he’s a deep thinker and an organizational engineer, looking to build new and better ways for us to be. And he wants others to learn and grow with him. He collaborates so well and earnestly wants to be part of building a better Shoreline. Submitted anonymously.

Mental Health First Aid Training Thursday 12/7/23

Free Mental Health First Aid Training Offered at Shoreline Community College!

Shoreline Community College Counseling Center is offering free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for our campus community. MHFA is a research-supported international education program developed to teach adults how to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. MHFA is a skills-based course that gives people the tools to assist someone who might be struggling with mental health or substance use challenges and connect them with appropriate support and resources. To date, 2.5 million people across the United States have been trained in MHFA.

Just as CPR helps those without clinical training assist an individual having a heart attack, MHFA prepares participants to interact with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step Action Plan that guides them through reaching out and offering appropriate support.

With support from the Counseling Center, this training (valued at $170.00/participant) is FREE to Shoreline Community College employees and students.

Training Details:

We are currently offering a blended training which includes:

• 2-hour, self-paced online training prior to the in-person training and

• 6.5 hour in-person training

Join us for Persian Poetry and Music on Thursday 11/30/23

Creator, storyteller, educator… the artwork and performances of Shoreline Professor Parisa Ghaderi transcends diverse mediums and disciplines. Having lived in both Iran and the United States, Ghaderi has experienced a unique state of existence- constantly straddling two worlds without fully belonging to either. Due to this existence, Ghaderi’s artwork is profoundly influenced by the urgent concerns of immigration and the impact of borders, serving to navigate the intricate complexities of these issues.

Date: Thursday 11/30/23

Time: 4:30-6:00pm

Location: 1000 Building
