Hello Community,

We are excited to extend an invitation to you to participate in a truly enriching professional development opportunity. As part of our ongoing efforts to foster meaningful partnerships and enhance our educational practices, we are inviting up to 10 campus employees to attend this year’s Effective Teaching Institute hosted by Muckleshoot Tribal College.

This unique institute offers a deep dive into the rich history, culture, and language of the Muckleshoot tribe. It will be hosted at the Muckleshoot Event Center located at the Muckleshoot Indian Casino (2402 Auburn Way So. Auburn, WA 98092) between June 25-27, no remote options are available.

Participants will have the valuable opportunity to:

– Learn directly from Muckleshoot tribal members about their vibrant history and cultural practices.

  • Understand more about Government to Government partnerships.
  • Experience a guided hiking field trip to a significant Muckleshoot Tribal site.
  • Explore strategies to indigenize your classroom and enhance inclusivity.
  • Discover and integrate recommended reading by Tribal members into your curricula.
  • Engage in roundtable discussions with experts on best practices in native education.
  • Enjoy meals prepared with traditional Muckleshoot recipes.
  • Participate in a cultural Round Dance.

This institute is not only a professional development opportunity but also a step towards strengthening our relationship with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe. We are pleased to announce that Brandon Fryman (bfryman@shoreline.edu), our new Tribal Liaison and a previous attendee of the Institute, will be available to answer any questions you may have about the experience .
