Events and News
Hey there folks hope you all are well. It’s another busy week for us at SCC. Last Saturday, I attended a great event held at Shoreline Community College. I met some wonderful leaders from the Korean Peace Unification Advisory Board of Seattle. The event began with presentations given by community leaders including Mijo Park, Deputy Consul General, Sam Cho (the youngest and first commissioner of color from the Port of Seattle), Young Seo, the Secretary General, Dr Woo, Chief of the Education Board, and several other leaders. Korean American youth took part in a quiz show testing their knowledge of Korean history, simultaneously teaching all of us. There were also great music and dance performances. It was a fun and educational event – we are so lucky to have these community partners!

I hope folks have also been able to participate in the Pride festival put on by the Gender Equity center. I was able to stop by and participate in some of the fun and got some cool Pride gear as well. Due to the leadership of Roberto Lopez and Dr J we were also able to fly a Pride flag on campus yesterday! We will be discussing flag-flying with our new VP DEIA and see if we might be able to organize some get-togethers throughout the year as symbolic kick-offs to events throughout each month.

This week I had a great meeting with the Workforce team who invited me into their space to learn more about what they do (and I did!). Unsurprisingly, their commitment to helping our students and getting them to their next steps is exciting and contagious- they are a wonderful group of folks.
Yesterday I also attended the “State of the City” event down at City Hall. It was very inspiring to hear all the things happening in Shoreline and to catch up with some city and state representatives.
I was pleased yesterday to make it to the celebration at the Parent Child Center. The kids were really cute, and it was nice to meet some of the parents.
I’m off today because I have a friend visiting, who is my oldest friend. I’ve known her since I was 15! (and I am a LOT older than that 😊)
Hope the end of the week goes well for you, and that you have a great weekend!
Cheers,
Jack

Business and Administrative Services
As shared in various Council, Committee, and Community Check-In Bookstore Management Service Contract Renegotiations with Follett continue. In summary, the three options proposed by Follett are:
- All-inclusive Textbook Model: Per credit hour fee charged to all students to receive all required course materials on first day of classes. Like other models offered by other Bookstore Management vendors and course material publishers.
- Virtual Storefront: Web-based ordering and fulfillment from Follet’s virtual storefront operations center in Arkansas. Free shipping on orders of $99+ dollars.
- 120-day Contract Termination and Close-out: Transition from Follet to close-out of agreement.
The current recommendation is Option #2, Virtual Storefront, and negotiating an initial one-year contract term which aligns with the recommendation by the Course Materials Accessibility Review (CMAR) Work Group chaired by Caitlin Maxwell (thank you, Caitlin!). This will allow time to thoughtfully consider other options and minimize the impact and disruption to Faculty instruction and Student learning.
Technology Support Services (TSS)
Wired Network Restoration: TSS has received word from our third-party vendor that a collective bargaining agreement has not yet been met and the IBEW strike continues. We will continue to monitor the situation and update everyone with any progress as the information becomes available.
Facsimile Machines In Use: As TSS continues to move forward with the build out of the digital phone system, it is necessary for us to identify all remaining faxes still in use across campus. If your department is still using a physical fax machine, please contact the TSS department via a ticket at http://support.shoreline.edu or via email at support@shoreline.edu with the subject line “Fax Line Identification”. We are requesting this information to ensure continued service and prevent unforeseen disconnections from the digital migration. Thank you for your attention to this matter and continued support.
