Events and News
Hey everyone, I hope you are doing well. Last week feels like a month ago or so, but here we are.
We had some really fun events at the end of last week including the annual Halloween Walk by the Parent Child Center (great job folks) as well as a great Halloween movie watching event at the Veterans Resource center. I walked in to see some students watching the Rocky Horror Picture show and then found myself in one of those old people “back in my day” conversations where I was explaining the phenomenon of midnight movies and some of the adventures that took place in the 80’s. The students were (I think!) interested! 🙂
Thank you so much to the Shoreline community for respectful and engaging dialogues post-election. I really appreciated seeing the 30 or so folks who came out for “Coffee with the President” event and am looking forward to the event sponsored by the DEIA office. Regardless of any changes that may come, we must always keep a focus on our mission and support our faculty, staff and administrators. We will continue to be strategic and proactive with our colleagues across the state and all over the the world who care about our vision. We have overcome much at this college (even in the 2+ years I have been here) and will continue to do so- collaboratively and always with student success as our focus.
Here is the statement of values sent out this week on behalf of our community college system: https://www.sbctc.edu/blogs/news-releases/2024/wa-community-tech-college-values
And hey did you hear: Our very own Sophia Kemp was awarded the WFAA Tim Henning Rookie of the Year Award at the annual state WFAA conference! This award is given to an up-and-coming member of the financial aid community with fewer than three years of experience. Sophia received a plaque and recognition at the President’s reception!
Did you sign up for soupsgiving yet? I can’t wait for this event! Info below.
Cheers,
Jack

GIVING TABLE UPDATE: We are in awe of how many of you volunteered and/or attended the Giving Table last Friday. We could not have done this event without all the wonderful volunteers that so cheerfully and willingly show up and help! Special thanks to Amber, Rashawn, Gary, Rob, and Cat for helping to create such a compelling video!
We had over 300 guests registered, which is a bit more than last year! The program for the event included Jessica Strickland, Rashawn Smith, Dr. Kahn. Brian Ramos, Tony Doupé, and the Consul General from the Republic of Korea, Seo Eunji.
Our student speaker, Maggie Watson, told a compelling story of how donor funding has helped her thrive, and then 5 of her classmates gave brief examples of how donor funding has changed their lives. The highlight of the program was a video that highlights the story of one of our automotive students who came here as a refugee from Afghanistan – You can see the video here
As of today, we have raised $96,000 – just $4,000 shy of our goal. If you would like to make a gift in support of our students please click here! Or, if you would like to make a gift through payroll deduction , click here for the form.
All of us in the Foundation office are grateful to everyone who helped and everyone who gave so generously. We are, without a doubt: amazed, inspired, grateful!
Here are some fun photos from the event!!

Business and Administrative Services:
Old Technology Equipment Collection:
TSS would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to drop off their old technology equipment in the collection barrels that have been rolled out across campus. TSS is beginning the collection process of the barrels to prepare for the eWaste pickup. For anyone who has not yet dropped off their old equipment, please do so immediately. TSS plans to have all collection barrels removed by Friday (11/8). If you have any questions or concerns on the removal of old technology equipment in your area, please fill out a ticket here.
Microsoft OneDrive is Shoreline CC’s Official Cloud Storage and Sharing Platform:
We have observed an increase in fraudulent emails impersonating Shoreline CC users encouraging individuals to click on Dropbox “shared files” in attempts to compromise network accounts. TSS would like to remind everyone that Dropbox (or other similar file-sharing platforms) is not approved software for the College and, therefore, should not be used when storing, sharing, or creating documents within the College (please note Google Drive can be used for Academic needs by students).
Please be sure to use Microsoft OneDrive for your cloud file storage and sharing needs. OneDrive is part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and maximize the value of and protect our existing resources. This powerful cloud storage and sharing platform is available to all Shoreline users.
Benefits of OneDrive:
- Built-in Security and Compliance: OneDrive aligns with industry standards to ensure our data is protected.
- Included in your Shoreline.edu Account: No additional purchase necessary and no additional sign-on required.
- Seamless Integration with Microsoft 365: OneDrive integrates with the Microsoft 365 suite, which we use daily, allowing easy access to files directly from applications like Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Collaboration Tools: OneDrive enables real-time co-authoring and easy sharing of documents.
- Compliance with WA State Retention and Public Records Laws: Using your Shoreline.edu OneDrive account as the only place to store your work-related data and files complies with retention and public records requirements.
OneDrive can also be installed directly on your Shoreline device for automatic file synchronization between your local hard drive and your OneDrive cloud environment. For anyone interested in learning more about Microsoft OneDrive, you can visit Microsoft’s Training Site here, or view the LinkedIn Learning course here.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Network Rewiring and Hardwiring Connection Project Update:
Below is the updated building list of the rewired and hardwired network connections that have been restored and those in progress with expected completion dates. As mentioned at the beginning of this project, most of the building wiring has not been updated for over a decade or more (emphasis on more). During this project, we have already encountered several major issues in the buildings as we run new cabling and test the integrity of previous network connections. We continue to utilize our third-party vendor (Milne) and expect to be fully completed in early 2025.

Direct Printing to the Ricoh Devices:
As noted in the previous section, TSS has made some significant progress in the Building Rewiring project. For all computers that have been reconnected on the wired network, you will now have access to print directly to any Ricoh printer across campus. If you have been reconnected to the wired network, you will need to first install the Ricoh Printer software. To do so, please navigate to the Company Portal and search for “Ricoh Printer”, select the printer icon and click “Install”. Once the software is installed, you will now be able to print directly to the printers from within your application by selecting “Print” and choosing “Ricoh_Copier_Workstations” from the printers listed. For everyone who has yet to be reconnected to the wired network, printing via email will remain available. If you have any problems or questions on this process, please submit a support ticket here.
Campus eFax System:
TSS is currently in the process of migrating all of the old fax lines to the new eFax system. At this time we are asking all departments who still use faxing services (sending or receiving) that are not yet on the eFax system to submit a ticket to TSS here. We are still aware of a few departments that need to be added, however we want to make sure that no one is left out in the process. We thank you for your attention to this matter.
