Well, it’s been a few days since I got back from DC and I’m dealing with some kind of flu. I know a lot of you are struggling as well—hope you all get some rest and Vitamin C!
Last week I was in DC with Trustee Chan and Cat Chiappa meeting with representatives to focus on support for our community colleges with a particular focus on workforce development. It was great connecting with colleagues from across the states who are so dedicated to community college success! I also attended the Community Colleges for International Development conference and learned some new ways to support our international students.
I am excited about a new partnership that officially started last week (though we have been working on this one for a while!). It is with the UNITED SEATTLE & BELLEVUE KOREAN SCHOOL. Our mission with our partners at USBKS has been to create a program that will elevate both communities. We are offering Korean language through the USBKS location honoring their many years of language instruction by transforming it into college credits. I hope you can join us at the celebratory launch!
I want to thank the large groups of folks who have joined virtual meetings to learn more about how the campus is organizing around changes coming from DC. I really appreciate all the thoughtful questions and the clear dedication our faculty and staff have to our mission. Also, it was great to get some positive feedback on the multiple projects Dr. Rucks and team are working on. Believe it or not, several more are in the works which we will update you all on as well. We are beginning to really amp up innovative ways to increase enrollment through our strategic plan. It’s very exciting!
It was nice also to hear folks incorporating some humor into our meetings, not to belittle the issues, but to find ways of connecting in times intended to divide us. I want to also thank Brian Ramos, our VP of DEIA for his kindness, steadfastness, and drive to keep us on mission and finding the best ways to support our students, staff, and faculty during this very challenging time.

- You should be implementing your goals for the 2024-25 year and documenting your actions in the “Progress on This Year’s Goals” section of the Program Review.
- Talk through your Innovation Grant ideas with the Grants Office: callendoerfer@shoreline.edu . Note: funding for Innovation Grants this year is tentative until the College receives more clarity from the state as to what our state allocation will be.
