Campus Updates 10/2/2025

Well, it has been a very busy first week of the quarter for all of us. I have spent much of my time this week in meetings with local team members and others to better understand fiscal issues impacting the colleges.  The Federal shutdown is another potentially impactful event, depending on how long it lasts.

Last week I was so impressed with the Donors & Scholars celebration.  Faculty and student scholarship recipients joined donors, community members, and staff from the college.  The event highlighted our wonderful students and the donors who support them.  It was a packed house and generated a lot of positivity and hope – well needed for all of us.  Thank you so much to the Foundation board and donors for all you do for our students.

This week we hosted a Pizza with the President event with the students.  It was great chatting with students and learning more about what they are majoring in and how they are doing as they transition into their first quarter.  The attendance doesn’t represent all students, of course, but the mood was very positive. Students were happy and excited about college and getting to know one another.

I also attended the Nursing accreditation visit.  The nursing faculty and staff did such a wonderful job with the report and in addressing all the elements required to demonstrate our success.  I want to personally thank Mary Burroughs for all her work in bringing this report together.

I participated in an interesting roundtable this morning with presidents and leaders across the country (including our previous president, Lee Lambert!) called ” How to Stay Relevant When Students Can Learn Anything, Anywhere, From Anyone”.  I heard a lot of challenges across the country and some newer ways of responding and rethinking higher education.  I will share what I learn.

I am also looking forward to the film “Madre Agua” today.  Hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Jack

Donors & Scholars Event Recap: A Meaningful Start to the School Year!

Thank you to everyone who helped make our recent Donors & Scholars Celebration such a memorable evening last week. It was inspiring to see proud scholarship recipients alongside their guests (parents, partners, grandparents) and our generous donors, all gathered to celebrate student success. A highlight of the night was keynote speaker and Shoreline College alum (Class of 1979), Senator John Lovick, whose powerful message about doing the right thing and expressing gratitude reminded us of the strength found in community and perseverance. Together, we honored the transformative impact of education and the resilience of our students.

The Giving Table is coming! We need your help! This event raises about $100,000 for student and program support. Now more than ever we need our donors to help fill the gaps! If you want to help us create a great event, get in touch with Taisa (twelhasch@shoreline.edu).
