Good day colleagues, I hope all is well. This has been another week of some pretty straightforward work – budgets and planning for upcoming events (including the Giving Table!).
I was able to take part in the amazing Haunted Library event (I was a bit scared, but I made it through), the Parent Child Center walk with super cute kids, and the wonderful Dia de Los Muertos event.
On Wednesday VP Aiello, AVP Rucks, Dean Ehmke-Reedy and I went to visit President Randhawa and his team at Western Washington University. We just signed a Transfer Articulation Agreement with them and went to brainstorm ways we can encourage the pathway from Shoreline to WWU. I had never been before – what a beautiful campus! Looking forward to the opportunities.

Dear Campus Community,
It has been almost a year since our campus bookstore moved fully online. During that year, we have been exploring the viability of re-opening an on-campus store and we wanted to provide you with an update.
After considering recommendations from the Course Materials Accessibility Review Work Group, and meeting with colleagues from other colleges in the area, the Executive Team has decided to keep our bookstore operations entirely online at this time.
Several factors influenced our decision:
- Re-opening an on-campus bookstore would involve significant up-front costs to hire staff, identify & renovate a space, and build inventory. Unfortunately, we don’t have sufficient reserves to do this.
- The prior campus bookstore had a deficit of approximately $1 million. The Board approved a cleanup of this deficit using Contract Fund Balance reserves, but we cannot afford to create another deficit reserve spending situation.
- Given the uncertainty around the new allocation model and other financial pressures, we simply don’t know how the future will impact our reserves and revenues.
Although we will not have an on-campus location, our bookstore’s core services are all available online. You’ll find links on the bookstore’s website where faculty and students can order course materials. Students can also sell back textbooks through the website.
We understand that many people hoped to see the bookstore return to our campus, but, unfortunately, that is not possible in the current fiscal environment.

PUB 5000 Self-service Coffee Machines Repair Update
Evergreen Refreshments will be on-campus today and tomorrow to repair and replace the credit card payment modules for the self-service coffee machines in PUB 5000. Thank you to the PUB 5000 occupants for making us aware of the payment issues. Please let Gayla Hocker or Joe Mazur know if there are service issues with these or the self-service food vending machines located in the center of the building.
Mail Services
As operations and coverage of the Mail Services Department continues among different employees, we need your help as we adjust our mail and package handling and delivery procedures.
To help complete our mission to timely send and receive interoffice mail, USPS mail, and other carrier packages, please pick up and drop off your items at the Mail Services Office (Room 9100) located at the external loading dock on the ground floor of the PUB 9000 Building. Please do not come to the interior door as the noise levels inside cover up door knocking sounds.

Technology Support Services (TSS)
Student Migration Project
TSS would like to provide an update on the previously announced initiative to migrate student email accounts from the Google platform to Microsoft. This transition is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the student technology experience and improve email support and account management.
Why This Migration Is Necessary:
- Google’s discontinuation of unlimited free student accounts
- Reduced storage capacity on Google accounts
- Improved systems management capabilities through Microsoft
- Security risks posed by compromised or orphaned @go.shoreline.edu accounts
What’s Changing:
Beginning in January 2026, all active student email accounts will transition from @go.shoreline.edu to @shoreline.edu. To ensure a smooth transition:
- An alias will be created for each student so emails sent to their old address will automatically forward to the new one.
- Existing data from student Google accounts will be automatically migrated to their new Microsoft accounts.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) will be enabled to enhance account security and user autonomy.
Preparing for the Transition:
On November 21st, 2025, TSS will activate the SSPR feature for student Microsoft accounts. This will allow students to input their recovery information and prepare for the new services launching in the new year.
A student-facing message will be sent next week with more details and instructions for completing the initial setup.

Fish War: Film & Panel Discussion
- November 14, 5:00 – 8:00 pm
- Shoreline Community College Theater
When the state of Washington made it illegal for tribes to fish for salmon in their usual and accustomed places, it was a declaration of war. Fish War follows the tribes’ flight to exercise their treaty-reserved fishing rights. Panel discussion follows the film, along with Native Artisan Vendors and Native Drumming.
