Campus Updates 1/22/2026

Hope everyone has had a good week.  My schedule is pretty packed this week, but some good highlights to share as well.

I was able to join the Shoreline Rotary this week.  You may know it meets right here on campus so certainly that is convenient.  It does start at 7 am which is of course…early, but intended to support folks’ various schedules.  I am in at 8, so not too much of a stretch.  It was great to connect with some community members and learn about the current philanthropy they are doing.  They have a longstanding history of supporting the college (the current President is a former chemistry faculty member who was here for 45 years).

I also had the pleasure of attending Larry Gossett’s presentation on Martin Luther King.  It was a wonderful event, drawing about 50 people or so, and sponsored by the Black Student Union, the yəhaw̓ center, and ASG.  I learned a lot from Mr.  Gossett in his work as an activist and community leader.  What I enjoyed the most was observing him from a distance while he sat at a table interacting and inspiring some of our young students.  Rashawn Smith & Lavena Seawright are doing such great work with BSU and the students.  Even with all of the challenges surrounding us, it was hard not to get goosebumps.  Keep on the lookout for several events coming your way soon.

I am looking forward to the alumni gathering this afternoon and evening – will keep you posted on that as well.  Have a great week.

Cheers,

Jack

The intranet is for employees only and is not viewable by the public. You’ll need to log in using your Microsoft credentials.

Access the Intranet Here.

Please review this DAAG post to learn more about what’s included in Phase 1 and what to expect in Phase 2.

Advancement/Foundation

Taisa Welhasch, our Annual Fund and Stewardship Manager, is moving back to her life in Europe and her last day with us will be February 4. I am very grateful for all she has contributed, including strengthening our alumni program, elevating the Giving Table, and bringing new energy and warmth to our stewardship work. Beyond her accomplishments, Taisa has been a joy to work with and a genuine champion for Shoreline College and the students we all serve. I am deeply grateful for her contributions and for the opportunity to get to know her.

During the transition, Wendy and Amy Stapleton will be covering her workload. If you know a strong fundraiser who might be a great fit, please reach out to Wendy.

Volunteer opportunity: If you’re interested in volunteering some time to review scholarship applications in April, please let Kara know at khaney@shoreline.edu! Our volunteer reviewers make it possible for us to provide fair, equitable, and timely award decisions for our applicants.

Volunteers are provided with instructions and a clear rubric to follow for scoring decisions. Reviewing is done online through our scholarship platform, AwardSpring. The time commitment changes depending on how many applications you want to review, but on average it’s between 2-4 hours. Full-time faculty can use scholarship reading as part of their service hours.
