March 10 Deadline for Inclusion in the Community Report

If you have a story or event you’d like included in the next Community Report, please contact Jim Hills in the 1000 building: jhills@shoreline.edu or 206-546-4634 by Tuesday, March 10.

The Community Report (CR) is mailed quarterly to approximately 60,000 households in the surrounding area.  It is a collection of the past quarter’s “biggest” news plus event advertising and announcements regarding the Shoreline Community College Foundation.

You can use the CR to:

  • advertise an upcoming event; small to full-page advertisements are possible
  • put your news story out to local residents

 

Spring University Transfer Fair, Feb. 24 – Pass the Word!

Be sure to tell your students about the Spring University Transfer Fair happening Tuesday, Feb. 24. It’s their chance to get face time with representatives from 20+ area colleges and universities and get answers to all their questions about transferring.

The Spring University Transfer Fair is Tuesday, Feb. 24 in the PUB Main Dining room, 9215 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.  Students can meet with reps from schools including but not limited to:

Eastern Washington University
Evergreen State College
Seattle University
Western Washington University
Bastyr
Cornish
Oregon State
Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising

Lunar New Year Celebration Feb. 24

Lunar New Year 2015We cordially invite you to join us in celebrating the Lunar New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We’ll provide yummy dumplings and cultural activities. Join us and have fun!

Lunar New Year refers to the first day of a secular, sacred or other year whose months are coordinated with the cycles of the moon.

Many people in Asia celebrate the Lunar New Year. The year 2015 is the Year of Goat. People born in a year of the Goat are generally believed to be gentle, mild-mannered, sympathetic, amicable and brimming with a strong sense of kindheartedness and justice.

Seattle U African American alums honor President Roberts

Shoreline Community College President Cheryl Roberts was among those honored at the Seattle University African American Alumni Chapter’s Black History Month celebration.

“As an African-American woman leading a highly recognized community college in our state, I was truly honored to be acknowledge for my work in higher education,” Roberts said of the Feb. 20, 2015 event held on the Seattle U campus.  “The experiences, education and values that I found at Seattle University have become foundational to my work and in my life.”

Roberts is a double graduate of Seattle University, first earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and then returning to for her doctorate in Educational Leadership. She received her master of arts degree in student personnel from The Ohio State University.

In addition to Roberts, the alumni group honored: Eric C. Davis, Bellevue College faculty member in Sociology and Ethnic Studies; Jason Oliver, Human Resources Director for AT&T in Dallas; Dr. Helen Orme, Senior Pastor at Shekinah Glory Tabernacle, in Renton; Dr. Linda Smith, Senior Pastor at SKY Center for Spiritual Living, in Renton, and Lena Williams, a Board Member of the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands.

The Seattle University African American Alumni Chapter connects African American alumni of Seattle University, current African American students and the faculty and staff of the University.

Limited Time to Participate in Get Ready – Take Action: All-Hazards Training

If you haven’t signed up for All-hazard training yet, there are just a few dates left to get in on this crucially important workshop.

Preparation and training can make all the difference during a serious emergency.

Associate faculty members will be paid for their time at the contractual rate for non-instructional work, $39 per hour. (You’ll receive a form to fill out at the training.)
