Stevens takes Everett post, Francis to be interim VPASA starting July 1

A transition plan is in place for the office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

The current Interim VPASA, Alison Stevens, has accepted the position of Executive Vice President of Instruction and Student Services at Everett Community College. Stevens will stay at Shoreline through June 30.

Appointed by Interim President Daryl Campbell to take her place is Bob Francis, currently the Acting Dean of Social Sciences. He also oversees the library and parent-child center.  Francis will take on his new role on July 1.

Stevens said that while she’s excited to get the Everett position, she’s sad to leave Shoreline: “Shoreline is an absolutely fantastic place to work and I will miss the people.”  Stevens came in December from North Seattle College where she was Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Francis said he’s looking forward to taking on the vice president duties and being “a bridge of consistency” during the transition. “It’s a wonderful honor after 20 years of serving students here at Shoreline,” Francis said.

Francis said he will focus on forwarding the existing initiatives, including the virtual campus and internationalization.

Just how long Francis will serve as interim VP is a bit up in the air.

Shoreline’s VPASA position has been in flux since this past summer when former VP James Jansen decided to leave. Jansen’s predecessor, John Backes, returned this past fall, who then handed off to Stevens.

The process to find a permanent replacement is underway. A search committee is in place and expected to meet on May 14, with a job posting soon to follow. While some application and screening work may occur over the summer, a final decision would likely wait until fall quarter when incoming president Cheryl Roberts will be on campus and faculty input could be possible.

And what about the temporary filling of Francis’ dean position while he tackles the VP job?

“We’re not there yet, but those discussions can start now,” Francis said.
