Commencement rehearsal

SCC’s 50th Commencement Ceremony is rapidly approaching! This is just a reminder that if you are going to participate in commencement, there will be a rehearsal Friday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the Gymnasium. We encourage everyone who is participating in commencement to come to rehearsal.

As well, caps and gowns will be on sale in the bookstore starting Monday, May 12. Each student may have up to four tickets, but we encourage you to only take the tickets you know you will use as there are many students graduating this year. There will also be an overflow room in the gym with a large screen on which non-ticket holders may view the ceremony. We also encourage those with small children and the elderly to use the overflow room as the ceremony will last almost two hours and the gym will crowded and hot.

If you have any questions about commencement, please contact Jennifer Mahern in the Dean’s Office 206.546.4641.

A huge thanks and great job

students workingThank you everyone who participated in the Campus Food Drive! We collected more than 450 pounds of food! The Nursing Department took the cake and donated the most food, bringing in 120 pounds of food! Thank you Tammy Davis for leading those efforts!

On Wednesday students from Gary Parks’ English research writing class on Food Systems came to the CEE offices to help sort and weigh the donated food.

Shoreline on the silver screens

Tony Doupe photoShoreline Community College is well-represented on silver screens across the region at the huge  Seattle International Film Festival and the adjacent and quirky Seattle True Independent Film

“I am extremely pleased to announce that between the two festivals, Shoreline film students, recent alumni and faculty worked on at least 19 movies!” said Kris Boustedt, faculty member in Shoreline’s digital filmmaking program. “That’s amazing, and I’m probably missing some!”

The Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) is the largest and most highly attended festival in the United States and runs May 15-June 8. For this, the festival’s the 40th anniversary, organizers have announced screenings of 440 films: 198 features (plus four secret films), 60 documentaries, 14 archival films, and 168 shorts, representing 83 countries. The films include 44 world premieres (20 features, 24 shorts), 30 North American premieres (22 features, eight shorts), and 14 U.S. premieres (eight features and six shorts).
