Celebrate the success of the MLK Day food drive!

MLK teaCome join the Center for Service Learning and Shoreline students in celebrating the success of our 2014 MLK Day food drive! To thank each of our volunteers, team leaders and staff, the Center for Service Learning will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Tea on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 2-4 p.m. in the Quiet Dining Room and you are invited!

Join us for tea, coffee and hot chocolate, as well as a variety of scones, muffins and cookies. Students will be there to learn about organizational needs and volunteer and service opportunities for beyond the food drive. If you are faculty or staff that have a need for student volunteers or interns in your department you won’t want to miss this event! It will be a great way to mix with potential volunteers and inform students about your department’s mission and areas where you might need some help!

RSVP to csl@shoreline.edu so I have an idea of how many people will be there! Hope to see you then!

Blending online and in-person learning

eLearning Director Ann Garnsey-Harter wrote up a great piece about blending online and in-person learning. Make sure to give it a good read!

Changes to Math

Hi folks,

Registration starts in a few  weeks, and the class schedule will show up online soon.  I want to alert you to an important change in our developmental math sequence starting spring quarter.

Effective spring quarter, there is no more Math 080. Instead, students who have passed Math 070 or have an appropriate score on the Compass test will enter Math 098 Intermediate Algebra I.  (This is the same course that was offered as “new” math 080 Winter quarter.)

As a reminder, students who are enrolled in the “new” MATH 080 winter quarter may register for MATH& 107, MATH& 146, PHIL& 120, or ECON& 201 spring quarter.  Students who are in MATH 080 now may write to mathadvising@shoreline.edu for entry codes.

Updated information about our math courses and the new pathway, including a new flowchart, is available on the website.

Also, there is a video featuring Dean Susan Hoyne that explains these changes.

If you or your students have any questions, please contact me at scalaway@shoreline.edu or mathadvising@shoreline.edu.
