DAIPANbutoh Collective is devoted to strengthening the presence of Butoh in Seattle and the Northwest, both by producing the work of its members and by bringing in international artists for performances and workshops. They have begun to focus more on outreach by educating and developing relationships with groups including veterans, prisoners, artists, philosophers, academics and contemplative practitioners.  In doing so, they aim to deeply influence their community’s evolution.

Passing of Emeritus Faculty Member John James

John James, an emeritus faculty, died peacefully in his home on Monday, February 27, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. John came to the college in 1975 in the capacity of Technical Services and Reference Librarian. He served the college for thirty plus years—working with students, faculty, staff, administration, and the community to help the college meet its complex and challenging mission.

His focus and energy both inside the Library and with the college in general was always on improving on the work of teaching and learning for our students. His patience and vision for a more inclusive and dynamic college learning environment were noticeable across the campus in many projects and initiatives that helped employees, students, and community members connect their learning across disciplines and programs.

Memorial Service: March 31, 2017; 3:00 PM; St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church – Seattle, WA

Global Showcase 2017 recap and photos

img_4184Global Showcase 2017, hosted by the International Peer Mentors, took place on Tuesday, February 28. Global Showcase is an annual presentation and celebration of cultures by Shoreline students and staff from around the world! Students from 18 different regions of the world participated: Kazakhstan, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, France, Pakistan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Jordan, Japan, and Central and West Africa.

The Shoreline community was able to see stage performances, try traditional snacks and beverages, play traditional games and instruments, and even try on clothing at the various booths! We were happy to see many international and domestic students come through the Main Dining Room to learn about the cultures – and we loved seeing faculty and staff from many areas around campus.

Global Showcase 2017 was a blast this year and it was a wonderful opportunity for the campus to come together and celebrate the great diversity we have in our community.

For photos, check out the Global Showcase 2017 flickr album on the college’s flickr page.
