Campus Updates 3/1/24

Events and News

Hello everyone, hope all is well! As I was putting together this week’s update, I thought about how what I put here might bias the reader a bit in terms of their perception of what I am doing. I tend to update more on the external things I am involved with as I assume that they would be interesting and “less known” to campus. I often don’t report on the stuff I am doing here on campus as it involves a lot of meetings, councils, reading/ re-reading/writing reports, emails, etc. In any case, if you are interested in hearing more about the MANY things I am doing on campus please let me know!

With that in mind—this week has been a lot of long days and evenings spent working on the accreditation report updates and preparing updates on the strategic plan for the board. There were many great suggestions from our campus community that have been incorporated and others that will be useful later in implementation. Thank you all for the great ideas! It really is a community driven plan. I am very happy to announce that the Board of Trustees approved the strategic plan on Wednesday night, and it is now able to be viewed in its entirety on our website. As part of that planning process, we have also adopted a new mission, vision, set of values, and equity statement that can be found on a brand new page on our site.

Thank you everyone who participated in the Mock Accreditation visit as well. As I said in an earlier email, it really served exactly the function we were hoping it would. We received a lot of great feedback in areas in which we are doing well, and for places we need to improve prior to the real accreditation visit this spring. The link to the feedback from the mock accreditation team is below in the accreditation update.

I did have a couple breaks from these two projects this week as well. The standout was meeting with the Korean Consul General Seo Eun-Ji- & her assistant Jing Chung to discuss all the projects we are doing to support the Korean community, and to see if there are other things, we can do to support her vision. It was a great meeting, and we came out of it with some tangible ways to support our WAVES center, International Education connections with Korea, and our burgeoning language project.  Thanks to Dr J, Savena, Lucas, Samira, Romina, and Tasha for joining.

Best,

Jack
