Notice to DRS Members and Retirees – Public Records Request

All Retirement Eligible Employees, please see this message from Washington State Department of Retirement:

The Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) has received a public records request from The Seattle Times that seeks information about all members of the state’s retirement systems, including all retirees and members, for the period of July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2023.

DRS has received a copy of the requestor’s Declaration of Non-Commercial Purpose pursuant to RCW 42.56.070(8)

If you have questions about the request, please contact DRS at 844-704-6780 or drs.pdrnotice@drs.wa.gov .

DRS has reviewed the request and determined that the following information items are subject to disclosure under the state’s Public Records Act:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Entry date
  • Retirement date
  • Withdrawal date
  • Employer/Department number
  • Employer/Department name
  • Employer/Department city, state, and ZIP code
  • Employment code
  • Employment description
  • Retirement system/type
  • Retirement plan
  • Service credit (years of service)
  • Annual salary
  • Monthly retirement benefit
  • Average final compensation
  • Employee transmittal code and description

DRS intends to provide the information items listed above to the requesting organization on Jan. 26, 2024.

About injunctive relief

Individuals who are the subject of a records request often ask if they can seek a court order to prevent the release of their records. Under state law, an agency could be enjoined from releasing records if a court finds that the release “would clearly not be in the public interest and would substantially and irreparably damage any person, or would substantially and irreparably damage vital governmental functions.” To enjoin DRS from releasing records in the current request, the department would need to be served with an injunction prior to the scheduled release date listed above. State agencies cannot provide advice on whether to seek an injunction or whether such an attempt would be successful.

DRS makes no guarantee regarding the security of the information once in the hands of The Seattle Times, nor do we take any responsibility for how they use it.

Campus Updates 12/21/23- Happy Holidays!

Events and News

It’s the last week before the break, and you know what I have been doing!!  Same thing as everyone else on campus- evaluations!  It’s been tough but it looks like I will get them all done before the 31st. My meetings have been very fruitful and honest.  I appreciate the process we have begun and look forward to making improvements for the next round.  Thank you to those who have given feedback on the process.  I appreciate it!

I did also actually do some Pro-D this week including participating in a new DEI in the Workplace module (offered by HR), Title IX (offered by Tricia Lovely to the Admin/Classified Supervisors group- and it was very well done!), as well as an Ethics training for administrators for ET. This week is busy but not as “hectic” as usual which is quite nice.

I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in our holiday video and to Rob Berg for putting it all together. Enjoy! I think it is a lot of fun!

I hope you all have great plans for the break. I am going to visit some family in Arizona for a few days including mom, dad, brother, niece, and nephew. Yes, Uncle Jack is coming to town (I think I am the “crazy uncle”). I am also seeing my oldest friend. We have known each other for about 40 years. It’s always great to catch up with her and her husband when I am there. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures when you return—I have really enjoyed working with you all this year.

Be well and happy holidays!

Cheers,

Jack

Happy Holidays!
