What is Commute Trip Reduction?

It’s a state law and program that focuses on reducing congestion and improving air quality. Employers in these counties participate if they have 100 or more FT employees who begin work from 6am-9 am. The CTR survey helps employers understand the commute patterns of their employees so they can help improve employee commutes.

I telework, do I still have to take the survey?

Yes, even though you may telework, your views and comments still help support the workplace and the purpose of this survey.

Please also submit the survey if you are working hybrid or part-time.

Are my responses anonymous?

Yes. No personally identifiable information is collected. The summarized worksite data may be shared with your employer, jurisdiction, and state government.

The CTR law requires WSDOT to report on CTR program performance every two years. The survey helps us understand and report reductions in air pollution and energy use, and monitor the effectiveness of CTR programs implemented at various worksites. Campus Updates 12/20/24

Events and News 

Hello folks—happy last week before the break!  It’s pretty gray out there today but I know folks are excited about taking some well-deserved time off.  It’s been a pretty busy week here- mostly finishing up evaluations and meetings as we wind down the week. 

Last week I attended some great Shoreline events. I really enjoyed meeting some of the students in our Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and hearing their wonderful suggestions for an annual project.  They have some really creative ideas, and I just loved their enthusiasm.   Audrey Reuter is such an inspirational and encouraging advisor. I’m looking forward to assisting them in moving forward once they finalize their plans.   

I also attended the wonderful Nursing pinning ceremony. Congratulations to all our champion student nurses and the faculty, staff, and family members that support them!  Our faculty dedication to nursing students is infectious — Great job to LeAnn De Luna, and Ben Weng for your work as academic leaders supporting our program!  Here is a fun video highlighting some of the graduates I put on my LinkedIn page. 

Lastly, I wanted to share our annual Holiday Video Greeting message with you.  Thank you to all who participated!

Network Rewiring and Hardwiring Connection Project Update:   

Below is the updated building list of the rewired and hardwired network connections that have been restored and those in progress with expected completion dates. As mentioned at the beginning of this project, most of the building wiring has not been updated for over a decade or more (emphasis on more). During this project, we have already encountered several major issues in the buildings as we run new cabling and test the integrity of previous network connections.  We continue to utilize our third-party vendor (Milne) and expect to be fully completed in early 2025.

Foundation: 

We are updating the SCCF scholarship application process effective for the 25/26 academic year. For the past several months we have been meeting with groups and individuals across campus to ask questions and learn more about how your department/area interacts with the process. After speaking with several departments that have multiple scholarships in their area, we are talking with donors and asking them to update their gift contracts so we can ensure that as many students as possible will benefit from their generosity. This means that we will be combining some funds, and (hopefully) streamlining/simplifying the criteria of others. We also worked with other community college foundations in our area to learn more about how they serve both donors and students. Many of the changes we are making are in keeping with the best practices for college and university foundations and are meant to improve the application and awarding processes of the SCCF scholarship program. This is a big job with a lot of moving pieces, and we appreciate all the folks who have helped us! 

In order to help as many students as possible, honor donor wishes, and ensure integrity in awarding, the following changes are being incorporated into the 25/26 SCCF scholarship process: 

  • SSCF donor-funded scholarships will be broken into two groups, need-based and merit-based 
  • All SCCF donor-funded scholarships that are need-based will require students to have a “valid” FAFSA or WAFSA on file   
  • There will only be one scholarship period per academic year – no quarterly scholarships will be offered during the 25/26 academic year – this could change for the 26/27 academic year depending on the availability of funds 
  • Scholarship funds can be used for tuition, books, and “educational expenses” (this is a huge change as it will allow students to use scholarship funds for transportation, food, rent, etc.) 
  • The SCC Financial Aid department will take over the distribution of funds to provide better transparency and simplification for students of their entire financial aid package 

The 25/26 application window will open at the end of January. We will have several information sessions and will be updating the website to better help students. We will keep you posted as we move forward.

Construction Work in Building 1600

Hello Campus Community,

The college has been approved for an emergency declaration to mitigate flooding issue in the orchestra pit in 1600.  Work began yesterday 12/18/24. The stage apron will be dissembled to remove the orchestra pit floor.  The stage apron will then be re-installed to ensure the stage can continue to be used while we mitigate the flooding issue.  There will be no impact to building 1600 and any scheduled productions will be able to proceed.  The contractor will work to resolve the issue with the orchestra pit flooding when the stage is not in use.  This project should be completed by the end of January 2025.  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Campus Updates 12/12/24

Events and News 

Hi everyone! Congratulations to all the faculty and students who are winding down classes (and grades!) for the quarter.  I am seeing a lot of “grading memes” on social media bringing back memories!  Oh, the grading memories!   

This was a pretty busy week as we move towards the end of the year. One of the learning practices we implemented this year in our Executive Team meetings is to have operational units join us and present how they do their work. This is great for our learning but even better for relationship building.  This week the stellar International Education team presented on the student funnel, and all the work that goes into recruiting and retaining our international students.  They shared how they use data to make decisions, and what their plans are for improvement in terms of working with new markets.  It was an informative presentation led by Sarah & Cynthia (and fun as well)! We have requests out for several of these for this winter and spring—if your unit wants to present just get in touch with your ED or VP! 

We also had a productive meeting this week with Ha, Yu Kyung, Education Director General from the Korean Department of Education and her colleagues Jeon Gi-Ho, Robin Jeon, Yongwook Lee, Jang Joyoung & Kim Jooyoung who were in the US on Education business. We discussed several topics including our wonderful partnership with the United Seattle & Bellevue Korean school and joint plans to offer Korean language for college-credit, SCC’s International Education program, as well as possibilities for other projects to support students and the Korean American community.  I’ll keep you posted as we make progress! 

And finally, last night we had a wonderful Nursing pinning ceremony! Congratulations to all our champion student nurses and the faculty, staff, and family members that support them! Great job to LeAnn De Luna and Ben Weng for your work as academic leaders supporting our program! Nurses are amazing! 

Now, don’t tell anyone but I have very few meetings today and intend to get a LOT done on policy work and evaluations in my office!!  Wish me luck and have a great week!

Committee/Council Updates:  

Earlier in December, College Council gave their thumbs up to the final version of the Participatory Governance Model. 2024 Shoreline Community College Participatory Governance Model final.pdf  

With this approval the college created three new councils: 

  • Instructional and Student Services Council 
  • Facilities, Budget, Technology Council 
  • Community Advancement Council 

As we launch this model, the Vice Presidents and Participatory Governance Task Force members will work on drafts of the Council Charters, recruit Council members, and convene the first meetings of these groups. Look for calls for participation in January 

Enrollments: 

The winter 2025 daily enrollment report is available to all employees.   

Business and Administrative Services: 

We have updated the “Procurement Card Delegation of Authority” form, and it is available for to retrieve online. Currently the VPBAS will approve requests until we hire a number of vacant positions. The “Forms” repository may be accessed at https://www.shoreline.edu/intranet/forms.aspx.
