All-Gender Restrooms now open

all-gender
In an effort to address concerns over public restroom access and foster an equitable environment, Shoreline Community College is introducing a total of four permanent all-gender restrooms to campus beginning the start of winter quarter 2017.

This measure is designed to reinforce Shoreline’s commitment to safety and inclusion by ensuring that all students, regardless of gender presentation or identity, have an option for safe restroom access. All-gender restrooms benefit the student body both by acknowledging the reality of multiple gender identities and by offering an alternative to traditionally segregated restrooms, which are not accessible to all students.

Global Engagement Mini-Grants for staff and faculty

International Education is excited to announce new Global Engagement Mini-Grants to advance global education and engagement at Shoreline through professional development opportunities. Examples of projects or activities include attending a global education conference, developing and designing curriculum, researching and planning a new study abroad program, or organizing community activities with a global focus.

The deadline to apply for a mini-grant is Fri., April 7. The International Program Advisory Committee (IPAC) will review proposals to select grant recipients in April and awardees will be notified in May.

All permanent Shoreline staff and faculty are welcome to apply. If you’d like to learn more, please contact Diana Sampson, Associate Vice President for International Education at dsampson@shoreline.edu.

aSAP Funding Applications for 2017-18

Dear Colleague,

The abbreviated Strategic Action Plan (aSAP) application materials for the 2017-18 budget process are now available. The submission deadline for aSAP applications is Friday, February 3, 2017.

The Strategic Planning and Budget Council (SPBC) will offer multiple live training sessions in mid-January to help you develop your aSAP proposal. If you would like to start thinking about some of your requests in the meantime, you may want to review the online materials describing the aSAP application requirements:

·         Funding Requests – Visit this page to determine if an aSAP request is appropriate for your proposal.

·         aSAP Application Instructions – Visit this page to view the instructions for each section of the aSAP application.

The aSAP process provides a streamlined opportunity for Shoreline employees to propose ideas and projects that help realize the College’s Strategic Plan goals. I invite you to bring your unique expertise and perspective to the process and consider how to best impact the College’s needs as a whole. With the shift in the state’s funding allocation model, the College will be required to grow at a steady pace in order to retain a revenue-neutral budget. This means that priority consideration will be given to proposals that directly enhance student enrollment, retention, and/or completion.

Stay tuned to DAAG for announcements about the January training dates. If you have any questions in the meantime, please email Guy Hamilton, Chair of the SPBC.

With warm regards,
Cheryl
