Miranda Levy Named Director of Student Accessibility Services

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that long-term employee Miranda Levy will now carry the title of Director of Student Accessibility Services and report directly to me.

This change has been made due to a revaluation of the scope and breadth of the work Miranda performs, with acknowledgement of her ongoing role as the subject matter expert for Student Accessibility Services (SAS).

Notably, while Student Accessibility Services will continue to partner with the DEIA Office in shared work supporting our student populations, the SAS unit will rejoin the Students Services Division in alignment with other student-focused service units at the College.

Miranda has worked and volunteered in the disability community for over 20 years. Her goal has always been to ensure that individuals with disabilities feel that they can pursue higher education and employment, if they choose, and that they will be supported.

Miranda joined the Shoreline community in 2018, and most appreciates the kindness she has felt from colleagues since day one. She appreciates the opportunity to develop relationships with all departments on campus and take part in awareness events.

Prior to this position, Miranda spent 10 years working at the Northwest ADA Center at the University of Washington, as an Americans with Disability Act Specialist. Miranda has an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from Western Washington University, is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and is a Certified ADA Coordinator from the University of Missouri.

Outside of work, Miranda enjoys spending time with her 10-year-old child and relaxing at home with a book or writing.

I am grateful for Miranda’s continued leadership while serving at Shoreline and contributing to student success through leadership in meeting our student accessibility needs.

Please join me in congratulating Miranda on this change and transition!

Update: Federal Funding Pause Rescinded

Dear Campus Community,

We want to provide you with an important update regarding the federal aid pause we communicated about yesterday. The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has officially rescinded the federal aid freeze, according to a memo that went out this morning.

This means that all federal grants and loans are no longer subject to the temporary pause, and funding processes should continue as usual. While the initial pause caused some confusion and concern, we are thankful that this issue appears to have been resolved.

In response to the freeze, our Attorney General’s Office joined other states in filing to block its enforcement. With the order now rescinded, it remains unclear whether that litigation will continue. We will share any relevant updates as we learn more.

We appreciate your patience as we navigated this rapidly changing situation.  Thank you for all you do to support our students and our community.

Best,

Jack

Follow-up: Temporary Pause on Federal Grants and Loans

Further clarification has been received relative to the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s temporary pause on all federal grants and loans, effective today at 2:00pm PST/5:00pm EST.

We have now received confirmation that the federal grant funding pause does not currently affect any type of Title IV federal funding. Title IV funding includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Work Study and federal student loans. However, all other federal aid outside of Title IV funding is still unclear. Please note, Washington State aid programs, including Washington College Grant, Washington Bridge Grant, College Bound Scholarship, Passport to Careers, Opportunity Grant and State Work Study, are also not affected.

We have also received word from the Department of Veterans Affairs Education Service that “GI Bill payments do not fall under this order and will continue to be made to schools and students without change.”

At this time, there is no impact to full-time employees funded by federal grants. However, an impact to student and part-time staff positions funded through federal grants is anticipated. Executive Team members are actively working with their respective areas to address this situation.

We will continue to keep you informed to the best of our ability as we receive more information.
