Welcome Wanda Waldrop, Mechatronics/Manufacturing Career Navigator

wanda-waldrop-operating-robotic-arm-in-the-manufacturing-departmentThe Manufacturing department is pleased to announce that Wanda Waldrop recently joined us as a Career Navigator focusing on the Mechatronics program in manufacturing. She will be recruiting students and providing support for them as they pursue a career in manufacturing.

Prior to joining us, Wanda worked for Employment Security assisting dislocated and low-income workers to complete training and reenter employment. She has earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Washington.  In addition to her work, Wanda enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her adult son who works in a skilled trade. In addition, if you really want to make her day, you can float a quote from the movie The Princess Bride!

Wanda is dedicated to student success and genuinely hopes to make a positive impact to the Shoreline Community College campus.

Budget & Capital Leadership Change

Shoreline Community College is making a change in the leadership of its budget, capital, facilities, and safety and security operations. Dawn Vinberg, Executive Director, Budget and Capital, has left the College effective today. President Cheryl Roberts expressed appreciation for Ms. Vinberg’s service.

Stuart Trippel, Senior Executive Director and CFO, will provide direct supervision to the Facilities Department and the Safety and Security Department. Until the organizational structure is further evaluated, staff in the Budget Office will report to Jennifer Fenske, Director, Financial Services, and the college’s rentals function will be supervised by Leah Pearce, Director, Bookstore.

The College will review its current needs to determine the title and areas of responsibility for the vacant position, followed by an open search process.

Introducing Derek Levy, Acting Associate Dean of Student Support Programs

Screen Shot 2017-01-24 at 2.39.07 PM.pngOn Thursday, January 12, Derek Levy joined Shoreline Community College as the Acting Associate Dean of Student Support Programs. Derek comes to us from the College of Marin, where he was the Dean of Student Success. Before that, he worked at the University of Washington and UW Tacoma. He earned his M.A. in College Student Personnel at Bowling Green State University and B.A. in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz.

Derek’s areas of responsibility include Services for Students with Disabilities, Tutoring and Academic Support, the Assessment and Testing Center, Veterans Programs, and Community Integration and Employment Programs. His office is 5216, extension is 4544, and email is dlevy@shoreline.edu.

Derek is excited to be at Shoreline and work with new colleagues to continue to support access, success, and equity for community college students. He and his wife, Laurie, have 3 red-headed boys, ages 15, 12, and 7. They live in West Seattle.

Welcome Adam Staffa, Web Communications Specialist

The Communications & Marketing department is pleased to announce that Adam Staffa recently joined us as the College’s new Web Communications Specialist. Adam will be responsible for website strategy, usability, and design. Together, he and Chris Hahn will manage the site’s daily maintenance and work to continuously improve our web properties for users.

Previously, Adam worked as a web strategist and multimedia marketing producer at Bastyr University for four years. Prior to moving to Seattle, he lived in New York City, where he worked at various media companies (MSNBC, Getty Images, PR Newswire) as a video producer, photo editor, and website strategist. He earned a B.A in Communications from Hofstra University and continued his education in user exeperience at the School of Visual Concepts. In addition to web usability, Adam is passionate about film, photography, urban planning, trail running, snowboarding, and had a short film screened in the Tacoma Film Festival.

Adam very much looks forward to getting to know the campus community and working with everyone on their web projects when time allows!
