Auditions for Opera Workshop 2018 are Nov. 8 & 9

Shoreline Community College opera and musical theater program is pleased to announce auditions for the Opera Workshop 2018 at Shoreline Community College. Open auditions will be held Wed., Nov. 8 and Thurs., Nov. 9, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:30 pm in the Campus Theater (Building 1600) on the College campus. Sign up for an audition slot.

Singers and actors are asked to bring one prepared song or aria for the audition (a pianist will be provided). Auditions are open to all members of the Shoreline and Seattle area community. Opera workshop cast members are required to register for either opera theater or drama performance credit through the college.

This season’s workshop features one-act operas by Washington State composers including Bruce Monroe and Bern Herbolsheimer. All works will be fully staged and performed with orchestra; performances are February 23, 24, and 25, 2018.

For the past forty-six years, the opera and musical theater program at Shoreline Community College has provided training and basic stage and performance experience for singers and actors while giving them the opportunity to earn college credit. Meet the Artist at the Artist’s reception for Alex Boeschenstein in the Admin Bldg (1000 bldg) Art Gallery (lobby) Thurs., Nov. 9 from 4-7pm.  

Alex Boeschenstein (U.S., born 1988) is a Seattle-based interdisciplinary artist rooted in the traditions of drawing and printmaking. Since 2012 his artistic practice has evolved to
include digital collage, video, sculpture, 3D modeling, game design, and installation.

“Fields of Irisarri” is a body of work consisting of non-reproducible woodblock prints created through accumulating myriad layers of superimposed rubbings.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Nursing Program Information Meetings are held monthly during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters and are conducted by the Nursing Program Director or a faculty member.  During these sessions, the Program and the entire admission process are reviewed.  Individual questions can be answered at the end of the sessions.

Speaker: Justin Collins, University of Washington, Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, (Shoreline CC, 2015; JSIS, 2018)

Justin will share his personal story that took him from the U.S. military, Shoreline Community College, the UW Jackson School, and to Europe on his way to earning Associate and Bachelor degrees.  Being flexible and seizing opportunities are part of that story.
