This performance marks the west coast premiere of Amy Beach’s Cabildo! Amy Beach, arguably America’s most famous and celebrated female composer, composed her only opera in 1932. Never published, the work was not performed during the composer’s lifetime, and has only had a handful of performances since 1946. Shoreline’s production will be the West Coast premiere of this miniature masterpiece. Set in late nineteenth century New Orleans, Cabildo tells the mysterious story of the notorious pirate, Pierre Lafitte (sung by Trevor Eaden) and his lover, Lady Valerie (sung by Alexandra Picard). The story is set in the governor’s palace and jail of the Cabildo, and features a cast of singers, chorus, and narrator accompanied by a piano trio.

Reminder! Books to Prisoners book drive accepting donations

Make a book donation to the Books to Prisoners Book Drive today! Books to Prisoners is a Seattle-based nonprofit organization whose mission it is to foster a love of reading behind bars, encourage the pursuit of knowledge and self-empowerment, and break the cycle of recidivism. The most popular requests are dictionaries, thesauruses, African American history, and fiction. Books to Prisoners relies on books donated by community members to answer these requests, so please make a book donation this quarter to help a few of the thousands of individuals who request books each year. Book drop-offs are located in the Library 4000 Building (near the main entrance) and the PUB 9000 Building (across from the front entrance). Donations are being accepted now through March 20.
