Are All Veterans Broken Flyer
Offered in conjunction with Operation Military Family, the Office of Special Services invites you to a workshop dedicated to overcoming myths about veteran students on May 19 at 2 p.m. in room 1402.

You’ll walk away from this session with a better understanding of:

  • how to relate to Veteran Students,
  • what “facts” really are myths,
  • the Impact of PTSD on the Veteran population,
  • what the Veteran Employment and wages environment looks like,
  • how Veterans and Problem-solving go hand-in-hand, and
  • what the real story is behing the “Homeless Veteran epidemic.”

Food and beverages will be available. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in thoughtful and provocative conversation, and you’ll be better equipped to understand and maybe even answer questions from your veteran students.

RSVP by registering in advance.

10926188_820480274672489_2702986159786256188_nJust a reminder to get your tickets for the Northwest premiere of “Big Fish,” opening Fri., May 15 and running through May 24.

Our colleagues in the Theater Department have been working hard to bring this production to life, even going so far as to take over the college’s Instagram page and give us all sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes footage of rehearsals.

With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by John August, “Big Fish” is a production centering on the charismatic Edward Bloom – a traveling salesman who lives life to the fullest – and his bigger-than-life tales that delight everyone, except his only son, Will. About to have a child of his own, Will is determined to discover the real truth behind his father’s tall tales.

Tickets are on sale now:
General $18
Seniors & Non-SCC students $12
SCC Students & Children $10

Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.

and the Library are proud to bring you
Disability History Exhibit
(This week only May 11-15, 2015).

The Disability History Exhibit is a 22-panel collage that traces 3,000 years of seldom-told history. From antiquity to the present, the exhibit brings viewers through an illustrated timeline that shows society’s attitudes and how they affect the lives of people with disabilities. Viewers experience powerful feelings as they notice similarities between ancient practices and modern stereotypes. The exhibit is accessible at many levels, striking a balance between easily grasped information and a comprehensive history viewed from multiple angles. The website, with accessible content of the displays, can be found here.

This display was brought to campus by the Library and OSS, which houses Disability Services for Students (SSD). Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We are located in the FOSS Building room 5226, and can be reached via phone at 206-546-4545 or via email at oss@shoreline.edu. We hope you have an opportunity to go see this beautiful, touching and shocking display.

Please send comments or questions about the exhibit to kcook@shoreline.edu. Thank you for your interest in the Disability History Exhibit.
