The Shoreline Theater Department’s Presentation of Texarkana Waltz Opens This Week

Texarkana Waltz

Get your tickets now for Shoreline’s presentation of “Texarkana Waltz,” opening this Thursday, March 5 and playing through March 14.

Directed by Debra Pralle, the Theater department presents Seattle playwright Louis Broome’s semi-autobiographical play that explores the horror of murder and the healing power of family and forgiveness in fresh, funny and stylistically creative ways.

From echoes of Hamlet, to Brechtian epic drama, and into a realistic exploration of a modern lesbian couple, “Texarkana Waltz” employs modern and classical sensibilities, colorful characters and the occasional singing cowboy to catapult us to the heartland of America as an Oklahoma clan struggles with the violent demons of its past.

“One of those rare works that manages to tickle the funny bone while plucking the heartstrings with quirky writing that sparkles with playful wit.” – Los Angeles Times

Playing in the Shoreline Community College Campus Theater, performances are March 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are:
General admission, $10
Children 14 and under and SCC Students, $6

Beginning Monday, March 2 artist Jean Behnke will take over the art gallery in the lobby of the Administration building (1000 bldg.) with her show titled “The Geisha and the Hawthorn Stump.” The show runs through April 10.

In a show that represents an ongoing investigation of a self-created fable, Jean delights in the synchronicity of things, considering intersections of intimate and infinite experience that reinforce a sense of wonder. Jean’s inventive printmaking and sculpture easily crosses mediums combining materials/media and uses methods of casting, assemblage and relief printing.
