IMG_9056
Shoreline welcomes Randy Gottfried as the new Instructional Media Director as of January 4, 2016. Randy comes to Shoreline from the University of Montana, where he spent the last nine years managing the Presentation & Technology department. During Randy’s tenure at Montana, his department provided campus with 150 new classroom technology systems, iMac computer labs, lecture capture software, live-streaming of events, and video production services. Randy has a strong drive to use his multimedia and technology talents to further educational programs. While at the University of Arkansas, he developed a distance education service for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences. Randy also was the College’s Teaching Resource Center technical director, providing technology support and equipment to the College’s faculty. Randy began his career at Ohio University, his alma mater, supervising the media and distance education operations of the Ohio University Telecommunications Center.

When off-the-grid, Randy enjoys hiking, kayaking, and camping in national parks. Many Montana weekends were spent visiting Glacier National Park and Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada. Randy also enjoys musical theatre, and is looking forward to attending plays in the greater Seattle area.

Randy is very excited to join the Shoreline community. Welcome Randy!

Panopto downtime Sat., Dec. 19

Panopto is updating to version 5.0, which has a new look and a better recorder for the Mac.

Panopto will be down on Sat., Dec. 19 between 5-8 p.m. PST. During this time, you will not be able to access recordings on your server, and any attempts to upload from recorder will result in a “Server unable to connect” message.

The update will not affect your current Panopto Recordings or change how you manage your recordings; the update improves the recorders and fixes many of the known issues.

Garnsey-Harter Presents at UK Conference via Distance Learning

anne ghShoreline’s Dr. Ann Garnsey-Harter, Executive Director of the Virtual Campus, eLearning, and Instructional Technology, presented “The North American Community College Perspective on Online Learning” at the Design eLearn: Making Online Learning Work Conference on December 17, 2015.

The conference was hosted by Lambeth College on the south side of London and Garnsey-Harter connected in remotely via video conferencing technology.

“The technology worked beautifully,” Garnsey-Harter said. “It was a thrill to connect with our international partners and share what’s new at Shoreline’s Virtual Campus.”

Garnsey-Harter was invited to present because of Shoreline’s connection to a consortium of colleges in the UK. Representatives from 11 of those colleges came to the Shoreline campus in 2013 on a visit abroad to learn from leading eLearning providers.
