Hey folks hope all is well!  I was out last week visiting beautiful Banff, Alberta Canada.  I had never been there before, and WOW- is it beautiful!  At times I felt like I was on another planet.  I would say it was a bit tough during “tourist season” with so many other people around and on trails the same time we were, but we found ways of finding some quieter spaces.   

Since I just got back Monday, a lot of my time has been spent playing catch-up from the mountain of emails, as well as completing some required trainings. I did have a great meeting Wednesday with Dr David May, College President for Bellevue College.  He got a tour of campus (and was very impressed with our Cedar building facilities as well as with both our auto programs and leaders (Rashawn and Gary most notably!).  We were chatting about some potential partnering cross-college—as I often say- keep on the lookout!

Foundation: 

Share your gratitude? We hung a bulletin board outside the Foundation Office (bldg. 1000 room 05). Please come by and hang a photo, draw a picture, or use the scrap paper and pen to show or tell us what fills you with gratitude. We’ll leave it up until school starts. I secretly hope (hint hint) that it gets filled with photos of pets and kids and loved ones! 

Next week we will be starting and completing the Fall 24 scholarship application evaluation. We hope to have the Fall awardees notified by 9/10. If you are one of the readers/evaluators, THANK YOU! I am adding you to the Gratitude Board! 

Our annual fundraiser, The Giving Table Luncheon, is November 1 from 11:30 – 1 in the PUB. If you would like to volunteer to help, please let Kara Know – khaney@shoreline.edu.

Classified & Admin Training Day is Tomorrow- Thursday 8/29/24

Greetings All, 

Tomorrow is almost here, and we are excited to welcome you to our inaugural Classified & Admin Training Day at Shoreline Community College! Below please find a break down of what to expect: 

ON-CAMPUS ATTENDEES:

  • Check-in begins at 8:30AMin the Theatre (Bldg 1600). 
    • Stop at the welcome table and pick up your nametag.
    • There will be coffee, tea, muffins, croissants, and fruit to start the day.
    • Please don’t forget to bring a notebook and something to write on!
  • All morning sessions will take place in the Theatre (Bldg 1600). 
  • Boxed lunches will be distributed in the Theatre Lobby at 12:00PM.
    • Your nametag will have your lunch order in case you forget. 
    • Rooms 1811, 1812, 1813, and 1814 have been set up for you to join colleagues for lunch. 
  • Afternoon sessions locations can be found on the schedule HERE. 
    • Signage will be in place to direct to these locations as well. 

ONLINE ATTENDEES

  • Morning sessions can be found on the schedule HERE. 
    • All morning sessions will be live streamed (but not hybrid).   
    • Online participant will not be able to interact during these sessions due to AV limitations in the room.
  • Lunch (on your own)
    • We miss you on campus and hope to see you in person next time (if possible)!
  • Afternoon sessions can be found on the schedule HERE. 
    • A dedicated online moderator has been assigned for each session. 
    • Moderator will manage the chat functions and keep online connected to the training.

Campus Parking Lot and Roadway Striping This Week!

Dear Campus Community,

Campus parking lots and roadways will be striped this week, August 26th – August 30th. The map below shows the stripe schedule by lot and day. The parking lots will be completely closed for the designated day, while roadways will be striped one side at a time (i.e., northbound lane striped in the morning, southbound lane striped in the afternoon). Campus Security will cone and tape off the appropriate parking lots the night before they are scheduled to be striped. 

This is a color coded map that shows which areas are getting striped on which days

PLEASE NOTE: Vehicles that are not moved will be towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.

PLEASE NOTE: King County Metro service on campus will be re-routed on Friday, August 30th during the striping. While the typical re-route moves pick-up/drop-off down the block to NW Innis Arden Way and Greenwood Avenue N, see the King County Metro website for specific re-route information.

FYI- Conference with NW Meter School on Campus this Week

This week there is a conference with the NW Meter School in the #9000 PUB with trainings in #1100, #1500 and #1700 all week Monday 8/26 through Friday 8/30. This event will be attended by Puget Sound Energy, Seattle City Light employees and other from around the region – this is an exciting opportunity for the College!
