Dream # 9 A Theatre Production 4/5-4/7

What if John Lennon survived the gunshots inflicted upon him by Mark Chapman on that cold December night in Manhattan in 1980?

Date/Time

  • Friday 4/5/24 7:00pm
  • Saturday 4/6/24 7:00pm
  • Sunday 4/7/24 3:00pm

Cost:

  • General Admission: $15
  • Students: $10

Dream # 9 is an original musical play, with a cross-cultural fantasy theme, that explores this question  with some twists and turns. It is the story of the first few months following that night; of Lennon’s recovery with the help of the loving and strong woman by his side, of where he finds himself at the end of his recovery (and where the world wants him to be), and of the power of dreams.

The play itself was inspired by a dream, but really came about as the convergence of a real-life story of survival, a mythological tale of perseverance and intelligence borne of love, from India (the story of Savitri and Satyavan), and the fierce fantasy that many of us share of having John Lennon still amongst us.

“Dream # 9” is produced by Ayesha and Vik Patnaik, and written and directed by Vik. Ayesha is an adjunct faculty member in the Communication Arts Dept. at Shoreline Community College, while Vik is an independent consultant in clean energy technologies and international management. Ayesha and Vik are grateful to have been able to revive this project post-COVID in the Greater Seattle area, with the support of SCC faculty and staff (particularly from the Theater Dept.), and assemble an excellent cast of experienced actors from the local community.

Events and News

Hey folks, I hope all is well.  This has been a remarkably busy week for the President’s Office, but a lot of great events occurred.

Last week I attended the inspiring Student Art Show Gallery opening. These shows are always terrific events, but this time I had the daunting challenge of choosing a winner for the President’s Choice award. IT WAS SO HARD!! I walked through the gallery about 17 times trying to narrow down my choices. After a lot of deliberation, I gave the President’s Award to Ashley Mwalimu who had several beautiful pieces in the show. Thank you to Zach Mazur, our donors, and the Shoreline Community College Foundation for sponsoring the event and the awards as well!

I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who came out for the Tim Wise presentation on Critical Race theory last week. I heard nothing but positive comments about the event. It was also great to see so many community members join us that night. Mr. Wise also did a training with ALL our administrators on anti-racist leadership at the institution the next morning. It was an excellent conversation and provided many learning opportunities, really setting the stage for next steps in growth and action at our college. I know Dr. Johnson has some wonderful ideas about how to continue this conversation and help us learn how to apply anti-racist principles to the work we are doing across the college.

This week I also had the pleasure of learning about all the great work faculty are doing in the classroom and with the community. The board reviewed the ARCS for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year tenure candidates on Wednesday. I really enjoyed this process last year and I did this year as well (especially now that I know so many more of the faculty). It is impressive what our folks are doing – I hope we can find many ways to share that with the campus community.

Lastly, I am including a link to this month’s video update from the President’s Office. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Jack

Concrete Sealant Application Friday 3/15- Note About Potential Odor

Hello Campus Community,

Today we were made aware that some individuals were smelling an unpleasant order associated with Cedar Building concrete sealant application process.  The contractor has provided the MSDS  (attached in your e-mail) for the sealant, and indicated the sealant being used is not hazardous. Forma will be pouring concrete again tomorrow (Fri, 3/14) at 10am, followed by the sealant spray (source of odor) at 2pm.  See the pour plan below of the area they are pouring tomorrow.

Employees with accommodations in place impacted by the concrete sealant application process can contact HR at hr@shoreline.edu for any support needed. Any other employees potentially impacted by the smell are welcome to work with their supervisor to explore remote work options noting that campus services must remain open and staffed during this time.

Finally, while the materials being used are not hazardous, we ask that you please avoid the area indicated on the map during this time.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Kimberlee Clark
