Winter Clothing Drive for the Benefits Hub

Student Life, CECO, and the Benefits Hub are organizing a Winter Clothing Drive to benefit students that are housing and food insecure at Shoreline Community College. We are asking for new socks and underwear and for clean, gently used scarves, knit hats, earmuffs, mittens, gloves, warm coats, sweaters, and pants. We will have donation bins available across campus from January 8th-January 19th and donations are also always welcome in the Benefits HUB (room 9102, bottom floor of the PUB 9000 building).

Campus Updates 12/21/23- Happy Holidays!

Events and News

It’s the last week before the break, and you know what I have been doing!!  Same thing as everyone else on campus- evaluations!  It’s been tough but it looks like I will get them all done before the 31st. My meetings have been very fruitful and honest.  I appreciate the process we have begun and look forward to making improvements for the next round.  Thank you to those who have given feedback on the process.  I appreciate it!

I did also actually do some Pro-D this week including participating in a new DEI in the Workplace module (offered by HR), Title IX (offered by Tricia Lovely to the Admin/Classified Supervisors group- and it was very well done!), as well as an Ethics training for administrators for ET. This week is busy but not as “hectic” as usual which is quite nice.

I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in our holiday video and to Rob Berg for putting it all together. Enjoy! I think it is a lot of fun!

I hope you all have great plans for the break. I am going to visit some family in Arizona for a few days including mom, dad, brother, niece, and nephew. Yes, Uncle Jack is coming to town (I think I am the “crazy uncle”). I am also seeing my oldest friend. We have known each other for about 40 years. It’s always great to catch up with her and her husband when I am there. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures when you return—I have really enjoyed working with you all this year.

Be well and happy holidays!

Cheers,

Jack

Happy Holidays!

Foundation

Winter Quarter Emergency Aid application opens on 12/28/24!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Foundation is looking for volunteers to help improve the scholarship program at SCC. This committee will help assess our current program, suggest ideas for improvement, and help evaluate quarterly and annual scholarship applications based on implemented improvements.

  • What: Scholarship Committee – On and off campus stakeholders who help assess current criteria, scoring rubrics, outreach, and award process
  • Who: The committee will be made up of volunteers (faculty, classified, or admin staff) from the following areas/departments: Automotive, Nursing, Music, STEM, HIIM, MLT, Workforce, International Education, Financial Aid, Student Services, Outreach, DEIA Committee, as well as Foundation Board members and community stakeholders.
  • Where: All meetings will be on campus.
  • When: Our first meeting will be in early or mid-January. During that meeting we will establish the regular cadence for meetings and work groups. It likely will be 2 hours once a quarter.
  • Why: The expertise you bring from your division or area will help us ensure we are meeting the mission of the foundation, the wishes of the donor, and the needs of our community!
