Campus Updates 9/8/23

Events and News

Hey folks! Hope you all are doing well.  I just got back this week from vacation.  I was talking to my wife about it, and we realized that it has been about four years since we last went on a one-week vacation together!  Like many of you I am sure with COVID and this year’s challenges it has been hard to be away.  Our pup Agnes joined us and is now internationally famous.   I did do some email while I was gone (of course) but Lori said I was “pretty good” about not checking too much, so that’s something.  Looking forward to seeing everyone soon and sharing our summer adventures.

As a function of being away and the campus being closed for Labor Day, I don’t have that much to report.  Perhaps the most exciting update this week has to do with a meeting Wendy Coates, and I had with leadership at Goodwill.  I attended their 100-year anniversary celebration a few months ago and met some great folks who have a strong DEI lens and dedication to many of the same issues we do.  Wendy and I spoke with them about possible partnering around areas where we overlap and exploring how we might be able to connect some of their new programs with our offerings at the College to create a more seamless transition between their career training programs and our educational opportunities.  The first meeting went really well, and we will be following up with them next week to discuss next steps.  I will keep you posted!

Happy to be back and to engage with the Shoreline team. Have a great weekend!

Best,

Jack

Foundation and Advancement

A couple of items from the Foundation this week:

  1. Thank you to our scholarship readers! We are grateful for your service and time. Thank you for volunteering your time to help donors fund students!
  1. Welcome back Michelle! After a couple of months’ absence, Michelle is back and as full of energy as ever! Michelle has resumed her duties as Foundation Manager and will be back on campus next week.
  1. There will be a rededication of a gingko tree for Erin Walker on 9/22 at 4:00 pm in the Courtyard near the Library. Erin was part of our campus community and died several years ago. The tree planted in her honor failed to thrive where it was, so a new tree (in a new spot) will be rededicated.

Food Trucks Coming to SCC Next Week!

Hello Shoreline!

It’s time to break out your stretchy pants, because the food trucks are coming! I hope you’re hungry. 😉 Next week our partnership with Seattle Food Truck begins, and we will have food trucks on campus twice a week throughout the fall.

First up on Tuesday September 12th is Dreamy Drinks and Solamente Al Pastor.  Dreamy Drinks is Seattle’s first Bubble Tea truck, and they offer espresso drinks, bubble tea, smoothies, and more!  Solamente Al Pastor is taco truck filled with delicious tacos to fill you up!

On Thursday September 14 you can find Oskar’s Pizza and Thai-U-Up.  Some of you may remember Thai-U-Up from an event we had at Shoreline earlier this year.

The goal of this partnership is to provide a variety of different food options for you to purchase and enjoy.  You will find two different food trucks on Tuesdays and Thursday during lunch hours which will typically be between 11:00am-2:00pm.

For more information on the trucks and the Shoreline schedule, please visit this link. This schedule is fully planned out for September and more options will be added in the coming months.

Happy eating!

HSAMCC Building Update

Dear Campus Community,

Today we wanted to give you a brief update on the HSAMCC building.  We made some great progress this summer and are very excited to open later this year.

Unfortunately, we just received notification of an additional delay in the completion of construction at HSAMCC due to a manufacturer defect in a mechanical unit related to the HVAC system. At this time, the contractor is reporting a two-week delay to our Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO), pushing it back to September 26.

We understand that this news is challenging and appreciate the impact it has on all of us. Please know that we are coordinating closely with the contractor to determine what move-in scopes we can complete prior to TCO and hope to have more info in the next few weeks, including a detailed timeline of what will occur over the next month.

We appreciate your patience during this process. In the meantime, please continue packing and labeling all your items so we are ready to move as soon as we are able.  If you have further questions about the move, please contact your direct supervisor.

Thank you,

Jack

EAP Gray Fire Support and Resources

Good morning-

This came through when I was on vacation and I’m not sure if it made it on DAAG. Here is a helpful resource regarding the wildfires that have been happening in Eastern Washington. -Cat
