Spring Enrollment is Up!

Dear Colleagues,   

The PIE (Planning & Institutional Effectiveness) Office provides data tools to help our college community track enrollments, which is especially important since one of the Presidental’s goals is to improve targeted enrollments in 2022-2024. 

10th Day Enrollment Report 

Last quarter, PIE started sending out a 10th-day quarterly enrollment report to campus.  Please review this quarter’s 10th day enrollment report.  The 10th day was on April 14th. (Due to data constraints related to the ransomware incident, comparisons in this quarter’s report are limited to select breakdowns where data is available.)   

Great news! Spring enrollments have increased for the first time in five years!!  

Daily Enrollment Report 

Also, since the Report Server is still unavailable due to the ransomware incident, Daily Enrollment Reporting now can be found on the PIE Team’s Sharepoint site here. That same link also is available on the Shoreline Support Center > Employees >  Daily Enrollment Report.

The Daily Enrollment Report is a snapshot of current quarterly student enrollment. The top file in the folder ( 0_CURRENT_Daily Enrollment Report_Comparison_Spring 2023) is updated with the most recent numbers available; prior daily reports are archived in that folder too. Enrollment as of Friday, March 17, 2023 (the last day prior to the ransomware incident) and final numbers from last year (Spring 2022) are provided for comparison.

Nominate Student Leaders- Deadline May 3rd!

This year Student Life will be hosting the Student Leadership Awards on May 25th from 5:00-8:00 pm in the PUB Main Dining Room.

This will be an opportunity for us to celebrate the end of the year and recognize the outstanding work of individuals, clubs, and programs. 

The nomination form for this year’s awards is now live and all nominations are due on Wednesday May 3rd.

Please note that while we have multiple awards focused on recognizing clubs and their leaders, this year’s awards will also include opportunities to recognize programs/other groups and students who have participated in any kinds of leadership, advocacy, and/or community service activities (on or off-campus). Anyone is welcome to submit nominations and there’s no limit to how many people or groups you can nominate.

Free Workshops: Staying Healthy in College

IE and Gender Equity Center are collaborating with ICHS on hosting two workshops for all students. The first workshop is coming next Tuesday on campus. Please see the blurb below and the graphic as attached.

International Community Health Services (ICHS) healthcare providers are offering two free workshops for Shoreline students on our campus this spring quarter!

Dates: April 25, 2023 and May 2, 2023

Time: Tuesdays, 12:30-2:00 PM

Location: PUB 9208 Quiet Dining Room

Topics:

-How to access healthcare

-Common medications you can get at a drug store

-Stress Management

-Safe sex and healthy relationships, Pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Infections

-Inclusive of nonheteronormative/nonbinary relationships

Staff from International Education Department and Gender Equity Center will also be there to answer your questions.

Campus Updates 4/21/23

Good morning, folks—this one will be a short intro on my end. 

Ransomware and our recovery project are of course the bulk of everyone’s work these days. It’s great to see Wi-Fi coming back online, and lots of other campus improvements as well. We are still waiting for info from DELL on their recovery efforts but will report that as soon as we have it. Of course, again big thanks to TSS who have moved us along in the recovery process much faster than what I have heard from other institutions in similar situations. 

While busy this week, I was able to make some events and community connections that I think will both assist the college as we move forward, and that also highlight the great work already happening here. Tenzin Tsundue was on campus last week reading from his new book “Nowhere to Call Home.” The presentation included a bit of Tibetan history, beautiful poetry, and inspiring words and camaraderie. Thank you so much to Dr. King, and team for hosting this wonderful speaker. 

On Sunday, Samira Pardanani and I met with members of the Nepal Seattle Society. We are so pleased language and culture classes are offered on our campus, and look forward to future partnerships aiming to preserve culture for our Nepalese community 

Finally, I had the opportunity to meet with the North Urban Human Services Alliance. I learned a bit about their vision, and what they offer to the community. We discussed the importance of their work on areas of retention for our students, and ways we might work together in the future. I will be bringing some folks together to discuss possibilities with them so if that’s your area of interest please let us know. 

In other news, I was thinking the other day that sadly I have not advanced my personal gardening projects here at all. I am wondering how folks are doing on theirs and what April crops look like so far? Let me know!

  • Monday’s April 24 due date for Area Reviews has been extended. Stay tuned for the new due date and please continue working on your Area Reviews. All accreditation news can be found at: https://daag.shoreline.edu/tag/accreditation/.

  • Reminder: requests to travel via a Travel Authorization (TA) form must be completed prior to your travel. Travel Authorization approvals by supervisors need to be completed in the month they were submitted or will generate an error. The exception is for same-day travel (non-overnight) within King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Thurston counties-no TA is required.

  • Please note that this will be our final week of Covid-19 reporting.  
  • Due to the upcoming change in federal emergency protocols in regard to the Covid-19 pandemic that go into effect on May 11, 2023, the reporting of Covid cases is no longer required.

Accreditation Area Review Deadline Extended

Dear Colleagues, 

Monday’s April 24 due date for Area Reviews has been extended.  Stay tuned for the new due date and please continue working on your Area Reviews. 😉 

Yesterday, Executive Team discussed the effect of the ransomware incident on this effort and acknowledged that not all areas have access to all the data requested in the Area Review.  

We also know that folks are doing so much right now, and we are trying to find ways to ease some of the deadlines but still move forward.  Please stay tuned for more information on that.  We appreciate all that you are doing!!
