Campus Updates 8/7/2025

Hello colleagues,

I hope your week is going well.

I am sad to say that there is nothing exciting to update from the president’s office this week, just continued work on policy development, budget, and planning for the fall.

Cheers,

Jack

Committee Updates

Enrollments

  • Archives of past daily enrollment reports.

Mail Services

As operations and coverage of the Mail Services Department continues among different employees, we need your help as we adjust our mail and package handling and delivery procedures.

To help complete our mission to timely send and receive interoffice mail, USPS mail, and other carrier packages, please pick up and drop off your items at the Mail Services Office (Room 9100) located at the external loading dock on the ground floor of the PUB 9000 Building. Please do not come to the interior door as the noise levels inside cover up door knocking sounds.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact Joe Mazur, Kimberlee Clark, Aimee Henson, or Gayla Hocker.

Technology Support Services (TSS)

Summer Surplus and eWaste Initiative Update: Work progresses to remove and responsibly dispose of outdated equipment across campus. We sincerely appreciate everyone who has reached out to identify surplus items and help coordinate pickups. Your support in this endeavor has been invaluable.

We are in the final stages of the project, reporting item quantities to the State, and scheduling final pickup appointments. As a result, TSS will temporarily pause any new surplus pickup requests until the current phase is complete.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.

Facilities and Capital Projects

Facility Work Orders: Are you having an issue with room temperatures, lights, custodial, or other facilities issues?  Here’s the link to enter a Facilities work order on the Megamation site.  If you need them, here are the instructions to enter a Megamation work order.

Communication and Marketing

We have bus ads! I am excited to share with you that our bus ads have been deployed and can be found live on buses until at least the end of August (though likely longer).  There are 27 out there in both English AND Spanish, and we have both queens (long horizontal ads in a frame on the side of the bus) and tails (horizontal ads in a frame on the back of a bus).  If you see them, please snap a photo and let me know.  My daughter has already told me that she has seen two different ads go by her camp this week, and a couple other people have mentioned they saw them too!  A big thank you to Mia and Rob for working on their creation, to Damon for putting together our campaign landing pages and to Oscar Arroyo Fuentes for helping us with the translations!

Foundation

The Foundation Office will be closed on August 7 and 8 so staff can virtually attend the Washington Advancement and Foundation Leaders (WAFL) training and conference. WAFL is an organization made up of Washington State Community and Technical College foundation and advancement staff. Topics this year are focused on helping foundation staff understand the quickly changing landscape around nonprofit tax law, ensuring equity in scholarship programs, and WA nonprofits and charities registration compliance. If you have a pressing need, please email Wendy (wcoates@shoreline.edu).

Great News!

The Shoreline Community College Foundation has received a $10,000 Community Impact Grant from Coastal Community Bank to support students facing basic needs insecurity. This funding will help fund critical services provided by the Benefits Hub.

Giving Table 2025 – Planning Underway!

We’re excited to share that planning for our annual signature fundraiser, the Giving Table Luncheon, is officially underway!  Please save the date for Friday, November 7 and join us in raising funds for student success and programs. Faculty and staff play a vital role in this event, and your presence helps create a powerful sense of community – we’d love your support!

Giving Table sponsorships are off to a strong start. We’ve already secured $23,000 in pledges toward our $50,000 goal, thanks to the incredible generosity of past donors, Board members, and CTE contacts. Their early support is helping us build momentum during a time of significant funding challenges, ensuring students have the resources they need to thrive. If you know of any company or community contacts who may want to be part of this transformative effort, please invite them to the event and connect them with the Foundation at sccfoundation@shoreline.edu. Thank you!

Changes to Financial Aid Service Hours

To allow sufficient time for processing student aid and other vital tasks, the financial aid office is making the following changes to its in-person service hours:

  • Summer Quarter: From Aug. 7 – Aug. 29, the financial aid office will be closed to in-person services from Noon-5pm on Thursdays in addition to the campus closures on Fridays.
  • Fall Quarter: Beginning Sept. 1, the financial aid office will be closed to in-person services on Fridays (phones available 10am to 2pm) throughout fall quarter.

We will continue to monitor emails and voicemails to the financial aid office and will respond to messages within 7-10 business days.

Students should check their email along with the tasks, message center, and financial aid tiles in ctcLink for updates on their financial aid status.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this peak processing time.

Wendy Coates Transitions to New Role at Shoreline Community College

We’re happy to share that Wendy Coates will be transitioning into the role of Associate Vice President of Development and Community Engagement (AVP-DCE) at Shoreline Community College, effective immediately. Wendy will also continue to serve as Executive Director of the Shoreline Community College Foundation, further expanding her impact on our campus and broader community.

In her new capacity, Wendy will expand her role as a senior leader overseeing advancement, alumni relations, fundraising, and strategic community engagement in alignment with Shoreline’s mission.  As part of a redeveloped outreach structure all community development and advancement-related outreach will be coordinated through the Advancement Office, and recruitment and enrollment activities will remain under the direction of Student Affairs. This change supports the strategic plan goals around engagement and allows Wendy and her team to plan and implement engagement strategies that strengthen Shoreline’s visibility and deepen its role as an anchor institution in this community. Key priorities include maintaining a strong presence at local events, facilitating community-facing programs on campus, and cultivating partnerships that advance institutional goals.

Outreach staff member Amy Stapleton will serve as Community Engagement Coordinator within the Advancement Office. Under Wendy’s direction, Amy will help streamline campus events to ensure they are inclusive, strategically designed, and resonate with the broader community. In her role as Campus and Community Engagement Specialist, she will also support alumni relations, fundraising initiatives, and enhance institutional visibility creating vital connections between Shoreline’s programs and the public it serves.

Wendy’s transition into this role builds upon her significant contributions to the College, including launching new student-centered initiatives and endowments, leading financial recovery and operational transparency, and operationalizing funding in support of programs and staff/faculty development. Under her direction, the Foundation earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, a distinction held by fewer than 1% of nonprofit organizations nationwide.

As AVP-DCE, Wendy will continue driving inclusive philanthropy, storytelling, alumni engagement, and community partnerships, ensuring Shoreline’s values of equity, access, and excellence are reflected in everything we do.

Please join us in recognizing Wendy’s dynamic leadership and in supporting her next chapter at Shoreline. Her commitment to our students and community will continue to shape a bold and inclusive future.

Wave of Gratitude

A Wave of Gratitude to Romina Plozza for Inclusive Excellence and Student Engagement.

I’d like to recognize Romina Plozza for being the next person to certify a course through The Online & Hybrid Course Quality Institute. Romina not only met all the required standards but also went above and beyond by meeting many of the optional standards as well—putting an exceptional level of thought and care into the course design.

This College 90 course will serve many new students as they begin their journey at Shoreline. It’s built on proven pedagogical practices that prioritize inclusion, equity, and accessibility.

Thank you, Romina, for your dedication to creating a high-quality, student-centered learning experience and for all the hard work that went into this achievement!

I serve as the facilitator for The Online & Hybrid Course Quality Institute, where I support faculty in aligning their courses with quality standards focused on equity, inclusion, accessibility, and student success. Submitted by Brandon Fryman

As a reminder, for those wishing to acknowledge the work of fellow shoreline staff members or a group at Shoreline, you need only submit a Waves of Gratitude form for individuals or a Shoreline Shoutout for groups.
