Over the past few months, we’ve discussed the possibility of changing our name from Shoreline Community College to Shoreline College. This has come up in meetings and conversations across campus, and we’ve appreciated the thoughtful feedback so many of you have already shared.
A college’s name is more than a title—it reflects our identity, our mission, and the direction we’re heading. As we consider this potential change, we want to be sure that it reflects who we are and who we aspire to be.
Many colleges across the state and country have made similar updates to better reflect their identity and offerings. But a change like this is significant, and it’s essential that we consider it carefully. This is not a decision we take lightly, and your voice is essential to the process.
We’ve put together a brief survey that outlines some of the key reasons people support or oppose the change. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to review these perspectives and share your thoughts.

Hey folks,
I can’t believe we are in April already! First day of the quarter was rainy, but it was great seeing students on campus today. I was in three Ask-Me stations already and had a lot of fun engaging with you folks and with students.
I was in Arizona last week visiting my family. My parents just celebrated their 60th anniversary which was pretty amazing. We went to this old school Italian restaurant in central Phoenix (celebrating their 50th actually) and got a private room to make it feel a bit more special – really lovely time there. I was sharing with ET that the restaurant had a lot of signed photographs on the wall of celebrities who had been to the restaurant in the past. My brother and I were cracking up with some of them while my 18-year-old nephew and 14-year-old niece were like “Who is Mr. Roper?” Look it up if you are wondering as well.
Thank you to Joe Mazur who provided some insight on the WA state budget. Both the House and Senate budgets have proposals that will have a negative impact on the community colleges. We do not know what that impact will be and certainly we have another month to go of advocacy. I have also been attending semi-weekly meetings with other community college presidents and with Representative Gregerson (she is the vice-chair of the appropriations committee- 33rd leg district). She has been candid about the tough situation she is in. We have been thankful and vigilant in advocating for the community colleges and particularly advocating for staff and faculty. We will continue to update the campus as we have more information.
Hope the week goes well for you.
Cheers,
Jack

Communication and Marketing
We have exciting news to share! Last year we submitted our Cedar Invitations to the National Council for Marketing and PR’s annual Paragon Awards. Community and technical colleges from across the country compete in 47 categories from everything from advertising campaigns, social media posts, print collateral etc. This year there were almost 1600 submissions from 205 schools. Prior to the conference we were named as a finalist in their Notecard/Invitation category. Finalists then are chosen to take home a gold, silver or bronze award.
I am proud to announce that last week in New Orleans at the National Conference, we took home a Silver Paragon. To my knowledge this is the first time since the 90s that Shoreline has won this kind of marketing award. I want to say a HUGE thank you to Mia Bradshaw for her beautiful design work on the Cedar Invitation and a big congratulations to her for helping to bring a Paragon back to Shoreline! 😊
