Check out our quarterly pre-funk to finals week – BREATHE. This quarter BREATHE events begin Mon., March 13 and wrap up on Tues., March 21 with our main event happening Thurs., March 16 (events across campus – AND make sure you stop by the Counseling Center for free food, crafts, and more)!

Students often report high levels of stress before finals, which can negatively impact their academic performance as well as their physical and mental health. BREATHE aims to reduce student stress as well as connect students to their Shoreline Community College community. These efforts assist our students attain their academic and personal goals.

Reminder: Winter 2017 Campus Update #2: Fri., March 10

Join us at the Winter Campus Update #2 on Fri., March 10 from 1:30-3 p.m. in the PUB Main Dining Room.

Important news and information about the College will be shared, as well as a report out on the College Values feedback we’ve gathered from students and employees.

New Acting Dean of Health Occupations/Physical Education/Business

The Office of Academic and Student Affairs is pleased to announce that Lisa Malik will serve as Acting Dean of Health Occupations/Physical Education/Business through June 30, 2017, effective March 16, 2017.

Lisa Malik earned her Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from Dartmouth College. Her research concentrated on Educational Neuroscience where she worked to bridge the gap between learning in math classrooms and brain research. She continued her work in the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center, a National Science Foundation Science of Learning Center, at the University of Chicago examining how emotions affect academic achievement and brain function. Lisa came to Shoreline Community College after briefly consulting with the Seattle Public Schools’ Special Education department.

In her time at Shoreline, Lisa has played a key role in moving forward strategic work on learning outcomes assessment.  She has provided essential support in campus-wide projects within the Student Learning Experience Coordinating Committee, while also serving as an ex officio member of the Disciplined Excellence Steering Committee. In all of her work here, Lisa has demonstrated the ability to approach complexity with a collaborative spirit and analytical finesse.

She will be working closely with Cathy Otto during the transition. During the Spring quarter we will be conducting a search for the permanent Dean of HO/PE and Business.

New Process for Campus Graphic Design Requests

Communications and Marketing has a new way for you to make graphic design requests using the ticketing system ZenDesk (the same system used by TSS, Facilities, and e-Learning).

Effective today, if you need to create or update any printed marketing materials (such as fliers, brochures, posters, forms, postcards, banners, etc.) or a digital screen slide, please use the link below to submit your request, rather than emailing or phoning in your request:

The Communications and Marketing department would also like to announce at this time that Grace Schulz, graphic designer, has departed the College. We thank her for her six years of service and support. Mia Bradshaw has stepped into the role of interim graphic designer and she will be using ZenDesk to manage her workload.

WA Annual Canvas Conference (WACC) – Not just for faculty!

WACC 2017: Washington state’s Annual Canvas Conference is a collaborative (2 day) conference focused on enriching higher education Canvas users. This year also features a student services track and a multimedia track!

TOPICS: This year’s conference is focused on Pathways to Success, OER (Open Educational Resources), Accessibility, and Universal design. During this event you’ll be able to attend dozens of presentations and other opportunities to connect with colleagues.  Here’s a link to the full schedule.
