Lady Phin’s looking to return to NWAC Championship Playoffs this season.

After making its first Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) playoff appearance in over 20 years, women’s basketball is eager to improve on last season’s results. With most of last year’s starting five back, the Lady Dolphins are hoping for an even better season this year. Heading up the roster is dominant floor general Aloha Akaka, utility forwards Gracing Browning and Katelyn Altaha, and Symone Pease posting up in the paint. In addition, injured last year, Leiah Naeata returns, adding tremendous depth to the offense. Rounding out the Dolphins are newcomers Taylor Eldridge, Moemannogi Notoa, Mahrysa Thomas, Nevaeh Williams, Maddi Lee, and Trista Dammal. Following their win over Bellevue College on Saturday, the Lady Dolphins lead the Northern Region.

We will have web links for all editions soon so that you can read online as well.

Global Showcase 2023 Thank you!

Global Showcase

Global Showcase, hosted by the International Student Leaders and International Education Department on March 1, was a rousing success, welcoming over 200 attendees from around the College! This celebration of the many cultures represented by our students, staff, and faculty, as well as community members, dates back over 10 years at Shoreline. This was our first time hosting the event in-person since 2019!

Over 22 different countries and cultures were represented through incredible booths, performances, and a fashion show. Our students and community partners put a ton of effort into creating their booth displays and engaged with attendees by teaching them words in their languages, showing them photos of their country, describing cultural traditions, sharing traditional snacks and sweets, and even dressing up in traditional clothing.

Students took the stage to show off their various talents with a k-pop dance routine, a Thai rock guitar solo, a Cantonese song duet, and a Ugandan pot-balancing dance. We wrapped up the day with a fashion show highlighting traditional clothing from countries such as Benin, Indonesia, India, Uganda, Madagascar, and South Korea!

Global Showcase truly felt like a great achievement coming back from the pandemic, but it would not have been successful without great effort by students (both international and resident), clubs, campus partners, and community partners. We were thrilled to have representation from the API Center and Multicultural Center on campus, as well as the United Seattle & Bellevue Korean School from our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this exciting day! The outpouring of support and positive feedback for this event has been wonderful to feel as we all come back from a pandemic. Seeing so many students engage thoughtfully with their peers was incredibly rewarding. Mohammed Alalawi, who represented the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at a booth, said afterward that he and his peers were “so excited about [Global Showcase]…we were proud because we showed some of UAE’s history.” Providing this opportunity for students to share and honor their cultural identities was a moving experience for many. One student told us it was their favorite event they’ve attended this year!

Please check out the photos below and we hope to see you at our next event!
