The Shoreline Community College Strategic Plan Team Needs Your Feedback!

Good afternoon all,

After extensive community engagement to create the Draft Equity-Centered Strategic Plan, Shoreline Community College is presently fine-tuning its vision, mission, values, goals, equity statements, and objectives to solidify alignment with both the College’s objectives and the broader community’s needs. Let us know if there’s anything we may have missed. The Planning team highly values your thoughts on the drafts, ensuring we capture the essence of our community.

Shoreline Community College recognizes that equity and diversity in the academic environment fosters cultural awareness, promotes mutual understanding and respect, and provides inspiring role models for all students. We are committed to a campus climate and culture where all community members feel safe, experience a sense of belonging, and feel their overall well-being is supported through authentic and engaged relationships.

Please share your thoughts in a survey that includes 25 questions, including 17 about the strategic framework of the plan and a small number of participant background information. The survey is anonymous and students who opt in are eligible to be selected for prizes!

Your answers will provide critical information that will help us refine our new mission, vision, values, equity statements, goals and objectives. Let’s celebrate what we appreciate about Shoreline to build an even more equitable, inclusive future to embrace the changing world!

Internet Outage Update: 2:36pm 1/29/24- Connection is Restored!

Dear Campus Community,

Good news!  The Shoreline network connection for campus has been restored.

We have received more information on the outage we experienced today and have confirmed that the fiber connection had some integrity issues in two spots, one near our campus and one about four miles out. These issues caused the Shoreline network to lose connectivity. While this is not an issue that originated at the College it is one that impacted us. Thankfully the technicians were able to get it fixed quickly allowing our connection to be fully restored.

Students and staff, please continue to check in with your instructors and supervisors for instructions about evening classes and activities.

If you have any questions, please contact Jason Brandon, Executive Director of TSS jbrandon@shoreline.edu

Internet Outage Update 1/29/24

At approx. 10:15am today, campus internet and phones went down due to an issue outside of the College. While a repair is in process, please see the following direction for the remainder of today (1/29/24):

  • Instruction requiring the use of internet should move to online modalities for the remainder of today
  • Instruction not requiring the use of internet can remain on campus as needed.

All other College services should move to remote operations for the remainder of today.

  • All units should continue to offer drop-in services via zoom sessions, etc during regular business hours
  • Service units are responsible for posting signage/online messaging regarding access to remote services
  • Signage should be posted with QR code or link to a zoom room before leaving campus
  • Employees that wish to remain on campus can do so, noting TSS has limited hotspots available to distribute.

Important Message from TSS- Internet Challenges This morning 1/29/24

Dear Campus Community,

Many of you have reported challenges with the internet this morning.  TSS has looked into it and has determined that the issue is not an internal one.  They are currently reaching out to the State to learn more and assess the situation to determine the cause of the slowdown.  Stay tuned for more information.

Thanks,

Jason Brandon

Events and News

This Saturday I attended the Latino educational Training Institute 2024 kick off. This included a nod to all the students in their leadership programs (they have programs now at Edmonds and Skagit for example), words from state representatives, and a great Chicano Studies presentation documenting the history of LatinX/Hispanic influence in the state of Washington. SCC is working with LETI now to add ESL courses to help support some of their constituents. I’m hoping we can explore one of the leadership programs as well. I was very involved with supporting Puente and MEChA at previous colleges and LETIs model is one we could investigate!

I was pleased to be able to volunteer for desk duty this week at the library.  I got to hang out with Mary Blanchett and a few students who trained me on several items (computer check-in and return, photocopies, etc.).  It was great to spend the time with them and learn about how our operations work.  Sometimes things got a bit interesting when I had to tell a few patrons to please be patient with me as it was my “first day” (I did not reveal my secret identity). 😉

In terms of meetings, this week was spent in several involving the strategic plan, to assist getting everything in the best shape for the draft info to go the Board for Wednesday’s meeting.  I also attended the WACTC legislative affairs update, which was helpful for many reasons.

Two items coming up at the end of the week include a meeting with the embassy of El Salvador in Washington DC (Coordinator) National Directorate of Medicines (DNM) Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador International Cooperation Agency to discuss possible partnerships, and the “Hill Climb” event in Olympia with a couple of students and Trustee Ringer.  More info to come!

Have a great week!

Cheers,

Jack

Technology Support Services (TSS)

The TSS department has completed the college-wide conversion to the new Microsoft Teams VOIP system. Faculty and Staff with active Shoreline CC phone numbers should be able to send and receive calls within the new Teams phone system. ACTION REQUESTED: If you have a Shoreline CC phone number, please check to ensure that your MS Teams VOIP was properly ported and verify that your work number is correct. You can check for an active line and verify your work number by:

  1. Opening your MS Teams application,
  2. Go to the “Calls” tab on the left,
  3. You should see a numeric keypad with your active work number underneath it.
  4. If your active work number is correct, please refrain from using your old desktop phone if you still have one and use the new MS Teams system for your calling needs.
  5. If you do not see the 10-digit numeric keypad or the active work number is not correct, please contact TSS to have this corrected.

As always, you can contact TSS via email at Support@shoreline.edu  or via the ticketing system at https://support.shoreline.edu.
