Campus Updates 12/14/23

Events and News

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well.

I can’t believe we are so far into December already.  I have been local this week focusing on committee work and projects at the college. It’s been productive but perhaps not as much as I’d like.  I took a spill recently which prevented me from seeing A Wrinkle in Time (which I heard was awesome) and has made participation in other things a bit challenging.  I’m on the mend but haven’t been able to be as engaged as I’d like.

Shoreline was very happy to host Senator Jesse Salomon on campus this past Monday. Senator Salomon represents our 32nd Legislative District and was so kind to come visit with us and learn more about the college. We had a chance to show him around our new Cedar building and to discuss some of the programs and activities happening (and those that will be there soon). A huge thank you to Trustees Ringer & Pobee, our faculty members Linda Forst, Matt Loper, Brian Saunders, Kira Wennstrom, ASG President Lena Chung, all our students, and Acting VP of Instruction Lucas Rucks for leading the tour!

Hope to see you at the cookies and cocoa event and if not have a great rest of your week!

Cheers,

Jack

Fall Quarter Updates

Accreditation

  • Area Reviews are due March 1, 2024.
  • Find your Area Review here
  • This self-reflective, continuous improvement process is a key assessment effort that addresses the College’s accreditation warning and helps prepare for the upcoming April 18-19, 2024 Mid-Cycle Accreditation visit.

ctcLink

  • Is next week a slower week for you? It’s a perfect time to catch up with ctcLink Training!
  • Review ctcLink training in Canvas that applies to your current role. Folks say it’s surprising how much more relevant they are now that they have worked in ctcLink for ~18 months.
  • Review the lists of training sessions that happened in 2023 and pick a few to watch and learn. You can watch them at 1.5x speed and/or advance to areas of interest to you. They are all stored in the ctcLink Pillar Work Session Information Canvas shell. (If you cannot access this Canvas shell, please send an email to elearning@shoreline.edu and Amy will add you to it.)
  • New Year is Coming – Plan personal goals for your ctcLink knowledge for 2024!   Here are a few suggestions:
  • Connect with a colleague from a sister college that does similar work to yours. So much can be learned from our SBCTC peers!
  • Set a goal for attending one ctcLink training per month in your subject area and share what you learn with your teammates.

Print Services

Print Services will be closed Wednesday, 12/20 through Friday, 12/22/2023. Please consider this closure and plan ahead for your printing needs as we move into the holiday season. Happy Holidays!

Technology Support Services (TSS)

TSS would like to make you aware that Microsoft is moving forward with their rollout of the new Microsoft Teams system. Beginning this month, you may be prompted with a pop-up message in Teams to install the new version of Microsoft Teams immediately or given an option to upgrade when you are not using Teams. You can select either option, however, please be aware that the next time you reboot or close out of Teams, the software will automatically update. You can expect very minimal changes to the actual interface, with the exception of some aesthetic changes to the look and feel, however, all functions and options should remain the same.  If you would like more information about the new Microsoft Teams platform, you can find it here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/blog/2023/03/27/welcome-to-the-new-era-of-microsoft-teams/

If you experience any errors or issues with this automatic upgrade, contact TSS by opening a support ticket here or by emailing Support@shoreline.edu.  Thank you for your attention to this matter and have a great holiday season.

Wave of Gratitude for Astrid Perez

A Wave of Gratitude to Astrid Perez for Inclusive Excellence and Respect.

Dr. Perez has built the New Faculty Institute (NFI) this fall into a wonderful collaborative support structure to help new tenure track faculty get started and situated in their roles in the college. She has incorporated DEI, how to Shoreline, guest speakers, field trips, and a canvas site tailored to the new faculty.  Thank you Astrid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From Dawn-Lowe-Wincentsen

As a reminder, for those wishing to acknowledge the work of fellow shoreline staff members or a group at Shoreline, you need only submit a Waves of Gratitude form for individuals or a Shoreline Shout-out for groups.  Thank you from the Employee Recognition Committee
