Construction Update: Building 1700 Closure at 3:30pm Today, 10/30

This morning, an issue related to our campus construction projects caused the gas line sensor feeding into Building 1700 to trip, resulting in a temporary loss of heat. The issue has been addressed, and gas is now safely running through the building. Classes and work will continue as normal through this afternoon.

The gas line will need to be shut off later today in order to make repairs, which means the building will be too cold for evening classes.  Please check Canvas for updated classroom assignments.   While there is no danger to students at this time, we will be relocating all evening classes scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Building 1700 to alternate areas. Building 1700 will close at 3:30 pm today. Employees who work in Building 1700 may complete their workday remotely after 3:30 p.m. today.

Please note that as a result, the roadway around Building 1700 will be completely closed today while repairs are underway. During this closure, the only access to Building 1800 will be via the walk ramp on the west side of the building, adjacent to the Building 1900/2000 roundabout.

Updates will be provided as made available.

STEAM/Bracken Construction Notice

Work began on Wednesday, 10/29, to widen the roadway between Building 1700 and Building 1800 (indicated by the red rectangle on the photo below). This work is expected to last through the end of next week, 11/7; though it is weather dependent as the last step is laying asphalt and adding striping (road paint).

It is the goal to keep at least half of the roadway (which is largely used as a walkway by staff and students) open the entire time, though there may be intermittent full closures of the roadway. During the full closures, the only access to Bldg. 1800 will be via the walk ramp on the west side of the building, adjacent to the Bldg. 1900/2000 roundabout (indicated by the small green rectangle on the photo below).

Update – Elevator Service Outage – Bldg. 2000, 4000, 6000

Dear Campus Community,

The elevators in Building 2000 (Visual Arts Center) and Building 4000 (Library) are back in service.

Building 6000 (Cedar) is still have emergency communications issues that need to be addressed before it can be put back into service. We do not yet have a timeline for when the elevator will return to service, but updates will be given as they become available. We are working to get technicians out as soon as possible.

For those who may require accommodations as a result of the elevator being out of service:

Please reach out with any questions.

Respectfully,

Gregory Cranson
