Commencement Updates – Week of June 13

We’re just a week away from this year’s Commencement! For those of you who are planning to attend or help out with the ceremonies, here is some important information and reminders:

  • Faculty and staff rental regalia for those who ordered it will be available for pick up in the Student Life office (PUB 9301) from Mon. 6/13-Thu. 6/16, or on the day of Commencement from 3024. Please only take the regalia that has your name on it. Regalia must be returned to PUB 9203 on the day of Commencement after the conclusion of the reception.

  • Faculty and staff who are participating in the Commencement processional should walk down the ramp in front of the Gym to the line-up area and check-in 45 minutes before their ceremony begins. Faculty and staff participating in both morning and afternoon ceremonies are welcome to join the lunch provided to volunteers at 12:00 p.m. in room 3002. Please note: faculty/staff who are also volunteering in other capacities should have received a separate e-mail with more information about their role.

  • Volunteers are still needed to help before, during, and after both ceremonies. There are a variety of available roles that can work around your participating in the ceremony itself, including:
  • Setup/Cleanup
  • Ushers
  • Greeter/Program Distributor
  • Will Call/Tickets
  • Graduate Check-in
  • Faculty/Staff Check-in

All of these roles have the option of being from 8am-12pm or 12-4pm or both if you’re available/willing to help out during the whole time. Classified staff are encouraged to work with their supervisors to flex their time within the week. Please go to this form if you are available to help out and let us know the roles you’re interested in and the times that you’re available.

  • Students who signed up for Commencement received an e-mail with information about the following:
  • Confirming their participation in the morning or afternoon ceremony by going to the Commencement website.

  • Graduates should watch the Commencement rehearsal video prior to coming to campus on June 18th. The video provides an overview of the ceremony as well as helpful information for guests. All faculty/staff who are attending Commencement are also encouraged to watch the video so that they know what to expect on the day of.
  • Tickets are required for all guests except children under 5 years of age who will sit on an adult’s lap for the entirety of the event. Tickets have been sent by mail to graduates who selected that delivery method. For graduates who selected “pick up on campus” or “will call”, tickets are available in the Student Life office (PUB 9301) next Monday-Thursday, and then all unclaimed tickets will be available on the day of Commencement out in front of the Gym. Guests without a ticket will be directed to overflow rooms in the Gym or PUB to watch a livestream of the ceremony.

We look forward to joining you as we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2022 next Saturday, June 18th. If you have any questions about Commencement, please e-mail commencement@shoreline.edu.

Message from Phillip King, Vice President for Student Learning, Equity & Success on behalf of the Commencement Committee

Dear Shoreline Faculty & Staff,

This year’s Commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. All faculty & staff are invited to wear commencement attire. Your participation is encouraged as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2022 graduates.

The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is today, Monday, May 9, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Please complete this online form to order your regalia. The submissions will be collected and sent to our vendor, Herff Jones. The College covers all rental expenses for regalia ordered through the above form as long as it is returned directly following the conclusion of the Commencement ceremony that the wearer is participating in.

Regalia will be delivered to the College and a pick-up location will be established for the week of June 13. Regalia may also be picked up on the morning of the ceremonies.

After the commencement ceremonies, we encourage you to wear your regalia to the reception for pictures with students. It is important that all caps, gowns, and hoods be returned on June 18, at the conclusion of the ceremonies.

Additional details regarding regalia pick-up and drop-off will be emailed out by early June.

Please contact the Commencement Committee at commencement@shoreline.edu if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
