Girl Scout Stem Day Report- A Great Success!

SCC’s first ever Girl Scout STEM Exploration Day brought 96 scouts to campus. They were exposed to Automotive, Manufacturing, Biology, Biotech, Computer Science, and Physics. Each group of Scouts visited 4 50 minutes sessions. They kicked of in the main dining room and went to their morning sessions. They retuned for pizza lunch generously provided by the Foundation. After finishing 2 afternoon sessions, Scouts met back at the main dining room, enjoyed snacks, sang the Girl Scout Anthem, and received their patches! Upon returning from the afternoon sessions, more than one asked what was next and when told it was closing ceremonies showed the first and only disappointment of the day. The idea for the camp was the result of a casual lunch time conversation between Amber and Wanda and manifested into an amazing event!

Chinese Summer Camp Program is suitable for 10- to 14-year-olds and is designed for beginner’s level language learning, with no prior Chinese language experience needed, or exposure to Chinese in everyday life. Shoreline Community College’s visiting Chinese Scholar Fei Ke will pack every day with language teaching, and arts/crafts activities that represent Chinese cultural elements. Only $59. for the week! New Dates for Youth Camp: Filmmaking with Rising Reels

This camp will introduce students to learning about how to create a short film with an introduction to professional film equipment. Students will learn to create concepts and characters, script writing and the elements inside producing and directing to shoot their own short film. Requires a cell phone with recording abilities, a tripod, and a mounted camera mic , water bottle and a snack. More information about Trina Griffin and Rising Reels: rising-reels.org.
