English Placement Test Updates

Beginning January 16, 2024, the English department is replacing the current Directed Self-Placement tool with an updated Informed Self-Placement questionnaire.

All other placement tools, such as transcripts, Smarter Balanced test scores, and Bridge to College English grades, etc., will remain as the primary placement methods for English courses, but for students who need an additional option, there will now be an updated ISP tool.

National research and data from our Washington state community college partners demonstrate that Informed Self-Placement tools that provide students with information and agency to select their first English course based on their previous experience and knowledge results in higher success rates and retention.

The new ISP tool includes:

  • Updated contact information for campus programs
  • Updated course information to include English 110, the new English co-requisite course
  • Updated enrollment information via email

If you have any questions or concerns about the new ISP tool, contact Dutch Henry at dhenry@shoreline.edu.
